Hi all, The thread below got me thinking about heavy weight circa 500gr/mtr linen canvas. http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=139024&start=70 Since I'll be making a new gambeson in the coming months I decided to contact my old supplier. Matthieu, Very nice for a first kit.
Just got a picture in from last Double Wars. Just love how the light reflects in my armour. Note, the armour is a very rough satin finish but apparently that isn't a problem.

oh yeah, if I were to do this for several guys I'd be buying the knees, elbows and helmet halves from rough from the hammer, stonekeep or clang in time. That time is better spent working on a good working foundation garment and getting everything properly fitted. My experience is that a good foundat...

@schreiber, I agree with needing someone who can sew instead of two armourers. But I believe your assesment of the time required for some of the sewing is too short. It takes longer then half an hour to transfer the measurements to a paper pattern and cut all the pieces. My assesment of required tim...

Re: SCA armour question: Elbow and Knee coverage requirement
Konstatin,
Like I said. Drachenwald has a manual with which I am familiar but lacks pictures. The item of discussion we're the knees. How far should they go back. Especially since historical lookings legs don't quite match the SCA required coverage.
With kind regards,
Jan

Hi Keegan, Looking good! Just got a few questions/ remarks/ suggestions. What will you be using as batting? I myself used a wool blanket (circa 1 cm thick) which was thick but has worked fine. Due to the construction of the coat I don't feel there is any need to leave padding off in the armpit and e...

SCA armour question: Elbow and Knee coverage requirement
Hi all, I know the text on the elbow and knee coverage from the marshall handbook but does anybody has any pictures on what the minimal coverage of the elbow and knee is for the various position of the arm and leg? Re: Review: Armstreet Hourglass Gauntlets
The original poster stated he isn't interested in sca gauntlets but historical ones. The linked ones suit that need better at lower cost then the armstreet ones IMHO. For myself as a SCA fighter they would not be suitable due to their 18 gauge. Else i would have jumped on them.

Hi,
It looks like this one, which is 14 gauge mild.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=154153&p=2356441#p2356441
Could be another in exact the same style from hammerbreaker but I would talk to the seller considering the creases.
Cheers,
Jan

Sabatons I left in the workshop by accident. 2013 project: http://www.flickr.com/photos/roelipilami/1623517375/in/set-721576024686479...

Hi,
That one was sold to Tom B.. I thought it a nice version of the Coburg bascinet. Certainly better then most. Could use some extra filework and removal of the point in the face opening.
Tom, what changes to the bascinet are you planning?

Jan

The Wanderer,
You can bend or make them slightly concave. But to ensure a tapered shape you'll also have to include sideseams into the leather shell. Else it will remain tube shaped.
