Question on functionality; hook on a aventail
Hi all, Was just looking at some pictures and noticed this one. On the left side of the face opening there is a hook incorporated into the aventail. Does anybody know if this was originally on this aventail, or if it was 'fixed' later on? https://plus.google.com/photos/115962623729091930300/albums/5...

Depends on your shaping and sanding techniques but generally it would be fine weight wise.

Hi all, Got this Coburg Bascinet for sale. It's new and unused but decided to go a different route with my next kit and like to free up the money for that. It would be a shame if this helmet never sees action. Here are the specs; Made by; Hammerbreaker Material; 2mm/14 gauge mild steel Size; 57-59 c...

Re: Brass vs Steels - some useful materials properties
Hi Max, Don't know about the US but here in the Netherlands you can buy brass in three different states. Paraphrased being; Super Soft, Medium, Fully Work Hardend. It is the same material just the level of work hardening is different. You could have made the splints out of the the first type. Cheers...

Hi coblejw,
What kind of visor do you mean with round nosed? Since if you mean those triangular klapvisors then I'd like to let you know those two don't quite go together time wise. Just so you know.

Jan

Hi Guys, Thank you for the replies. I have the Wisby books so am familiar with the various types. Concerning the material. It really depends on your local sources. Linnen canvas weight (420 gr. mtr.) is here €10 per sq. mtr. while 5 ounce leather is 2 € per sq. ft.. Since I would need 2 layers of li...

Hi everybody, Just got myself some sides of leather to construct some loaner gear Coat of Plates. Hi Mac, Just grabbed my 'The Churburg Armoury' from Carlo (Kasper here on the Archive) to take a closer look. I agree with all your points, except on wheter it is rolled inside-out or outside-in. I can't see anything too clearly to determine either way. Do you have another book which shows this more...

Re: Churborg 13 breastplate details?
Hi Murdock,
Why not simple build a globose slighly wider then needed and cut it up after shaping? That would ensure that everything fits together properly and is easier then trying to pattern it right before curring and shaping.
Cheers,
Jan

Hi Corey,
Have you tried making the front triangle smaller and go less deep into the arm and add a gore under the armpit? The gore under the armpit should be less then 2 inch wide at the circumference of the armhole.

Jan

Oh yeah, the cotehardie remind me of this. Proper split hose. Too many people walk around with 13th century hose which together with the short 14th century style cotehardies result in the diaper look.

Hi,
- The proper body shape (BMI of 20-22 helps

Hi Destichado,
I disagree. Just consider a modern equivalent. In art (movies for example) you see fantastic design (eg. Batmobile) but you'll never see those designs being transfered to real cars for daily use.
