Just wondering, The gauntlets in the Royal Armoury do not seem to have holes to attach a rider plate. But they are damaged so I could be mistaken. But looking at the avant gauntlet which is somewhat hourglass shaped. Wouldn´t the type of fingers attached make the difference in wether or not the r...

Egfroth may I ask where you've got that information from? I have so far not seen anything to indicate that. Oh and Erik on the front of the helmet where the browband is rivited to front to back band you've missed 2 rivits on the lower edge of the brow band. I know that most images and diagrams show ...

Sorry, been working/ being busy all day. Yeah I'm interested in that ball stake and will contact you trough a PM. I've been looking at Grinding balls. They are available in different sizes but from the supllier only in tons etc. So I'm thinking about maybe contacting ENCI which is a cement company i...

Where or how to get ball stakes? (In Europe)
Hoi, I was wondering where you can buy ball stakes in europe or where you can get decent sized ball bearings or other sphere shaped proper steel balls. . I am trying to find anything bigger then 5 cm in diameter and am having a hard time. I allread checked with Hoogovens(or Corus these days) but the...

hoi, Thomas, if I were you I would raise it as in period. Else you won't have the proper look IMHO. Just get yourself a half decent border hammer and you'll be done in a sec. But on another note....I have seen you ask allot around for market ideas and patterns and pictures etc. but when do we get to...

Well if you'll like it or not will also depend on the material you used. May I ask what kind of of fabric you used for the shell and liner? and what kind of padding? Because if you used anything polyester you'll sweat to death in the thing. Polyester won't absorp sweat and so it won't wick it away f...

Well....maybe they just didn't think of it? -I mean the greecs had steam power to open doors in the temple of Zeus. So they had steam technology but no steam engine?? Why?? they simple didn't develop the idea. -For ages people would have been able to mass produce candle's using forms. But instead th...

You know.....I think you're right. Think I made the mistake because I wasn't sure how to interpreted it and because I was looking at Milanese suits for an hour before looking at the drawing. Personally I think you should either go with the end of the 15th century look or the export italian. Those su...

You wanted this picked apart? Okay well I will go off what I 'reconise' from the drawing. The breast plate is 15th century Italian. The spaudler/pauldrions are feasible except I myself haven't seen the 2 different types used on the same armour. Also the right pauldren should lose the High Guard as t...

The hundred year war lasted from 1337 till 1453. This is a long time with rather big differences between armours when it started and when it ended. So it is not perse 'easy' to start with. That litteraly ranges from simple Coat of Plates with Great Helms to full plat from head to toe suits with grea...

hoi, Well, we are going to delve even deeper on specifications. Are you getting annoyed yet? Because the 14th century is a century in which a lot is happening concerning armour development (concerning everything acctually but let's stay focused). So we need to ask, are you going for early/middle/lat...

Hoi, Well just make sure you're close enough to the metal so your protective gas is really flowing over your weld while welding. This with proper heat and wire speed should creates a sound (obviously) and well, there is a certain sound your aiming for. I can't explain the sound with writing but it's...

Hail, I agree that organspliter is most likely the owner of Viking Armory. He has the same habit of bad spelling. Tweddle's book is good for the Coppergate helmet. The other helmets are shown but not as detailed. I presume he meant with "doing it right" that he wanted to do it with all the decoration. Well personally I would think a 100 years quite some time. If you defenitly want rigid reinforments which you can just show while being as authentic as possible you'd really need to go towards the last part of the 13th century. And build a reinforced surcoat and hardend leather. Chris Dobson wrote a...

hoi,
There is a very nice russeted one in the Royal Armouries. I saw it couple of months ago and I found it a very stricking affect. Here is a link to an online picture of it.
Please note though that it's a 17th century armour.

But don't you always make a little dip in de steel with a center punch? And if you just drill carefully insted of full pressure from the start at an angle it won't walk. I mean I think you just said you don't center punch it and just put the drill on the steel but I can hardly believe it. I mean you...
