hmm, so you guys are pretty pessimistic as soon as a country you don't trust is buying steel. China is not buying all that steel for his war effort. So wait with crying havoc and releasing the dogs of war. They are buying the steel for their construction purposes. They just dismantled the local stee...

Well, ofcourse depending on what kind of brass or bronze you are using but let's presume you are using for brass CuZn30 after 90% cold deformation the 0,2% rekgrens(which I think is translated "elongation" is at 580 MPa while the bronze CuSn6,7PO,1 is after cold deformation 830 MPa. There are other ...

If you use double thread it'll be less but I don't think double threaded tap and die sets are easy to find for the average jo...

If you simple replace the leatherbinding with brass bindings you'll get something rather like the Coppergate. I think that simplicity on a Late Roman Cavalry Helm is nicer then overdoing the decoration

Just my 2 cents

I would either go for the ordinary strap that buckles on the back but covered under a cloth aventail or maille. Not sure how that would look though.

Or I would go for tie-ing it. But I would be a bit afraid for the tie's coming loose.

Auch, sounds indeed you've got to make a long drive for the steel. And at what price!??! just plain outrages. I get it a the decent price of 25 eurocents the kilo. And that's barely do-able in my opinion.

And got a bronze-foundry where I know the president of in 5 min. drive on the bicycle.

Take the norman conical helmet pattern from Sinric. Put a band from front to back. Another band around the brim. Put on the occulars and then imagn something for the back and cheek plates.

The pattern is really straight forward but the execution is very nice.

But I must add that the grill has a very different shape then the ones we use nowadays.
