In my experiences, in and out of the SCA, with fighting, or anything else, different people need to be taught in different ways. I do not believe that it is necessary to use excessive force to teach any lesson. Excessive force, however, does not mean that you cant give said "student" the f...

89 - the year I first found the SCA down in Trimaris. Wasnt known as Kenwrec back then....

Gotta love the old pics. I cant wait to see the presentation that Dr. Strong is going to do at the MidRealm 40th year anniversary - 40 years of armour in the SCA.

Re: Do the plates overlap?

Simply... Do the plates overlap, or is it artistic license of the sculptor, much like the occasional rivet that is located RIGHT on a seam? And yes, with this set of wonderful photos, it does appear the things on the shoulder are a hinge or attachment for the shoulder protection. Luc. There are hin...

I have a good number of detailed pictures and have been researching making this body armour for some time now. I have come to the same conclusions about the large plate on the chest. Many moons ago Felix and Phillipe from the Mid put on a pas at a rustic campground in Ionia MI where the combat took place on the entire site. We fought in the tent area, the lodge, and a real bridge with a real river that was fought in. There was an idea that it would be a 48 hour war. That part i...

I wasn't too impressed. The rivalry between the east and mid is pretty ridiculous, especially when someone glued King Eikbrandr's picture on a bunch of urinal cakes and distributed them around the porta-johns. Just my $.02 Actually, that's kinda funny. No, not even vaguely funny. To any royalty, no...

Old School ... dirty oil blackening (with heat)

As to blackening... for a modern alternative, Black Magic.

Other thoughts - Heat and WD40 and straight heat bluing.

Does that give enough support for the legs? Currently I've tried wearing a few different types of belts to support my legs and all of them have caused my lower back to hurt. I had picked up a copy of that and was looking to make it. It'd be used to hang the arms and the hosen, right? Any idea how the legs would be supported? Legs can be supported from the aketon/gambeson on the inside. There is some "discussion" on the use of a pourpoint type garment for sepa...

It's worth revisiting Dr. Strong's analysis of German effigies here: m Looks like it's some sort of globose body harness for you. OK, so you've got a bit of a belly- most of us do. If you can play with a globose you might find that if it fits right it can make your upper body look bigger and minimi...

cotton batting for the padding I disagree here. I do aggree that you 100% want to avoid poly though... However, cotton fibers, when wet (read: sweaty) will swell. This makes you sweat more, since the skin can no longer breathe as well. I suggest and highly recommend using linen or wool for your pad...
