I agree that armour is not the place to begin, however, what is the thing that is most catching to a person? Something that LOOKS beautiful. Moreso than one's soft kit, armour does that. As such, that draw brings many to start there. If we focus on the strength of that draw, give it a positive outle...

I agree to a point as well.... And I have the answers to those quetions for myself. But those questions are not going to be what a person brand new to the SCA are going to ask themselves. Those who are there who are wanting a better look without the effort will need a guide. It is not up to those wh...

My thoughts were that he wants to comprise a general guide for New SCAdians for choosing what gear (soft or hard) one's kit should use. Wearing a Sallet with maille and a CoP would not do. But if you replace the Sallet with a Greathelm, better, but certain elements are still missing. I haev been wan...

Come to think of it. Doug Strong (Talbot) was using some tiny brass tacks for a project recently. May have been about a 1/16" shaft.... I would check with him for specifics though.

The SCA itself is non-profit, but the armourer toiling away making the armour is supporting your choice of entertainment. Directly or indirectly, they are part of the industry....but you miss the point. Lower all the armours prices and you will put them out of business. Then you will have no armour....

Aside from pulling them aside (not in front of others) and telling them they are "requiring blows to be a bit more excessive than they need to be", there is not much more to do than hit them harder. Their midset will determine whether they respond to ID stimulation (hitting harder) or intellectual s...

La Jeu de la Hache - Anyone make the heads for SCA use?

I am looking for, hopefully - an SCA legal version of one of the varieties of jeu de la hache heads. In my SCA journey, I have found that there is more to my appearance than just my armour. I want to have the weapons of the time I am representing. Anyone have any thoughts? I have a few construction ...

There is really only one part of what Gregory said that I must contest. The largest industry in the world is entertainment. More money is spent in that industry then many others combined. The artist, and especially the armourer, are part of that industry. He/she is shaping metal into its respective ...

Ok, now to the rest of my comments. Having read everything, one thing that does not really seem to be addressed, though might be hinted at in various posts is this: The comsumer EXPECTS the higher end armourer to just drop their price so they can get what they want for cheap, simply because the muni...

If so....silo-flex does not shatter or even crack in temperatures just below 0 f.

From a marshall statndpoint, you would just need the male protective gear.

The helm weight should be fine. I wear the 1050 spring greathelm that weighs just at 8 pounds (the one I am trying to sell) and it has no issues passing anywhere I have been.
