Oh, believe me Char, that book is on my list....
My goal is to look good in my hard kit, my soft kit and my skivvies!
And honestly, that last one will be the hardest of all! (just 15 more pounds to go!) hehe

The Black Prince - Books & Pictures
I am looking to produce as accurate a kit as I am able based off of the Black Prince Effigy. I have a number of pictures, but I am looking for more and if I can get it, a book with a number of pictures. (I did see the links in the Armour section of said effigy) A websearch provided me with a few mor...

Actually, I found that when I started rapier and incorporating some of its teachings into heavy, it improved my game. The two biggest things that rapier helps develop is point control and footwork. You CAN fight heavy without both, but you are better for it if you have them. My footwork game has far...

My primary single weapon (broadsword) is just over 3lbs with a balance about 1 inch above the qullions. It hits with plenty of authority, without much force needed. Never had a shot called light. My other sighle sword uses a baldur basket and weighs in a just about 2lbs. It is light, fast and balanc...

Actually, I prefer crosshilt hardware, but for basket hilts, I would attach them with strapping tape - about 12 wraps of it. With wire and hose clamps, often (especially with plastic) that securing is stronger than the basket hilt is self, so if something were to break it would be the hilt. If you s...

When I do work with new fighters, or even work with experienced fighters with a new weapon, I wait until I see them settle in a bit, then step up a half step. If they seem to react well, I will talk to them about having stepped up and ask how they are doing. Thus far, it seems to be working well. I ...

Just to make sure that there were no mistakenly taken implications in my questioning.... I have the utmost respect for all fighters out on the field. Male and female. Why does "your" fighting change when... (SCA)
...you are facing a less or differently armoured opponent, or an opponent of another gender, or an opponent smaller than you? I have seen a multitude of threads where this is addressed. Why do you change your fighting? Is it not a dishonor to your opponent and yourself NOT to fight at your best, who...

Aye, that he did. But I do believe that the heater became more of a device bearer rather than used as a means of protection. Watching the size of a shield shrink as plate armor covered more of the body. Edward had the full coverage of armour, so I would wager that his shield was just a device bearer...

OK...thus far: - Reduce break times as much as can be - say to 15 minutes? - Modify or eliminate any down time that is not rest. (i.e. - no sitting out of fights. - Increase the amount of fighting. How about this.... Eliminate the coinage - For purposes, it just complicates things further. 15 minute...

Thanks for the quick input.. Couple of clarifications.... The "bargaining" would be done during the rest periods...which are at most, 30 minutes, while the next battle field would be getting set up, fighters would be resting, getting water, etc.... The structure of the melees would go to the capatai...

Idea for a heavy melee event - Looking for feedback (SCA)
I will be MICing my first event here in the coming future and I have, what I think is a great idea for a melee based day of heavy fighting. I am looking for the opinions of fighters from various kingdoms to get input now, so I have time to develop a really great event of fighting. This is my thought...

Is it wise to post event ideas here for input, or....
not?
I would not want to come up with a nifty idea and have someone else do it prior to my first use of it....but I would very much like to get some feedback for the fighters of various kingdoms on the idea.
Thoughts?

Seeking a Corrazina
Exactly what the title asks.
Does anyone have a pattern for one? The most historically accurate the better.
Would be most appreciative.
Thanks!

A simple feint flat snap to the onside head that drops into a leg shot - most often hitting the inside lead leg. The shot is normally thrown from the shield lead leg stance, but works from a sword lead leg as well. Rotate the hip and upper body as if the throw the flat snap to the onside head of the...

Officially, you must have a marshall present to hold an SCA sanctioned fighter practice. Holding a friendly gathering is another matter entirely, cuz then the SCA has no attachment to it. Keep in mind that any passers-by see you, that you cannot mention the SCA unless it is official. In my experienc...

I was actually wondering that exact thing. I have the designs and patterns for the Wisby gauntlets and wondered how the wrist was protected. The plates butt right up close to each other, but do not overlap. For SCA purposes, is the lack of any real gap, the layering of felt, leather, metal and glove...
