That, I believe, was what I was driving at, thanks Clinker. ...which is why I was asking about chemical bluing choices to get a good blue/black coat. While I realize that it is not rust bluing or heat bluing, both of which are a more appropriate and accurate way to accomplish the goal, I am not one,...

I certainly understand about the heat "darkening" but have a question.... Given the nature of heat and the flickering and random nature of flame, even one from a torch.... how, on a piece such and a breastplate or helm, do you get a smooth and even coloration?

14th c armour - To cover or not? That is the question...

I my research, I have found a very strong support for the covering of metal armour pieces in the mid to late 14th century, and not as much for the blackening of the steel (though more in the latter part of the century than the earlier.) My question is this: Of the covering materials, what was used? ...

Thank you Sir Mord,

As I expected. I was just curious. I realize that the research methods have changed little, however, we have found new things, new information and have new tools to allow more accuracy. Was just curious if any of the information was out-of-date. :D :D

European Armour - Claude Blair - How Accurate?

I have just found myself (finally) a copy of Claude Blair's European Armour - circa 1066 to circa 1700 . How accurate are the detailings within, given the date of the original writing nearly 50 years ago? While the information listed seems accurate for its time, I wonder how it has held up in the la...

A lot of it has to do with the outside viewpoint - no matter the age of the intended recruits. If you are running around in bad garb and visable plastic armour and also allowing "Lord/Lady Dork-a-Lot" to be the face of the SCA for the new people, then it has an effect. I also think targetting the ag...

I have heard the following said about "cork-screwing"

3) - It is very strenuous on the knees (of the grounded opponent.)

Our group seems to have a good balance. We have some who are in their 20s, some in their 30s (like me) and a pecking in the 40+ group.

It is a bit older than I remember for 14 years ago in Trimaris, but nothing of any drastic nature.
