Velcome to de Vortex of de Steel!! You will love it, hate it, cry, bleed and laugh. I would start with spaulders (I did). They are the best all-around simple project that encompasses the basics of armouring, as stated above. The "How To" stuff here is a good place to start for information. Where are...

I see one major problem with your suggestion Ogier Armourworks has yet to admit any fault in their actions. They have not made any efforts to make amends with any of their clients. They keep pushing out the same reasoning for every person they deal with. Though I have never had any sort of dealings ...

X-post from the Armour section - Pembridge Greathelm Q....
I am looking for the proportions of the Pembridge greathlem from the eyeslot to the top of the helm and the eyeslot to the bottom of the helm... meaning - Is is a 60/40 (40 above 60 below?) I have a larger than normal cranium, and wish to size this to fit me, but want to maintain accuracy if I am ab...

Laye...

I have been fighting single sword a lot of late and I'll tell you this..... Learn from your group Rapier people if you have them. I picked up a few basic stances and sword positions from them, in combination with studying I33 and my skill with a single weapon jumped significantly. I decided to use s...

That 1/3 ratio is pretty accurate. It is really odd. I have been on a weight loss kick of late the past 5 months) and have found that my 75 pound kit,, despite getting into better shape, is winding me just as fast as it ever did. I have gone from 230 to 208 (and hovering around 210 currently.) When ...

This does not include japanese armours, but I can account for the weights of the suits that I have researched for late 14th century. Top to bottom - basinet to sabatons with a segmented breastplate, aventail and maille haubergeons, etc - with slight variations due to size they ranged from 45 to 58 p...

Just to make sure I did explain myself, I was not looking at construction methods between the two, but the proportions of each. I want to know the distance from the eyeslot to the top of the helm and from the eyeslot to the bottom point of the helm. What the proportion is...Such as 60% below the eye...

Pembridge/Black Prince style Greathelm question.....
What should be the proportion of the helm? Let me break it down....
The top domed plate attacks to the two top pieces of the helm in proportion to the bottom two pieces....
I will try to post pics of what I mean later if I am not making sense....

Just a tip from one who has worked with several female fighters... and maintaining a period look. C-o-P or leather breastplate (depending on breast size - D cups would not be comfortable in a C-o-P. Leather or metal splinted leather arms and legs. This maintains a periodish look as well as keeps dow...

I will shoot you a response here too. I have a 14th century persona in the SCA and have been doing research in this area myself over the past year or so. If you want a metal that will give you the best protectiveness that will be closest to period weight, medium to high carbon steel (1050 to 1095) w...

They look really nice, but I cannot justify spending $20 for each one when there is no time frame on how long they last, and for that same $20 I can get 4 or 5 2'x4' camp pads, if used for tips alone, will last me as long as I am going to be fighting heavy. $20 for a single tip just seems a bit stee...

Yes, that is why I used the term latten and not just brass. I wanted to know which form of latten was most prevalent and the patterning used with it. I personally like the look of yellow brass, but I am making a late 14th c kit for myself to replace my current hodge podge and I want to be as accurat...
