Goon,

That is a great shot for what I was looking at. What I thought was my issue IS my issue. It looks like I have some metal to cut. Thank you greatly for the pics.

Apologies for the misdirection. :)

Anything would be most helpful. aside from the metacarpal plate, it seens to be coming up nicely. Given my inexperience, about how much time (within a timeframe) should I expect to spend making a pair of Wisby gauntlets?

Wisby Gauntlets - Assistance please

I have begun my first pair of Wisby's based upon Talbots instructional at the MAG a short time ago. Using the pattern given to me by justmagnus, and trying on the gauntlets the had there (which fit), I am noticing that I have had to cut away steel for a proper fit. Given that the other ones fit my n...

To be sure, no. I have personally not seen evidence of this. I was merely refering to SCA combat as to the padding comment. It would be interesting to find out if there are any examples of Basinet/greathelm combinations and how they were constructed, fit, padded as well as how the fit together. Pers...

I am making my helm(s) out of tempered 16ga 1050 spring. even with the aventail, I am sure it would not weigh more than my old helm (just over 18lbs.) Besides, with the weight, double layer of metal and padding, your head will certainly be safe. T-Bob: Let me finish you scales, Kevin's CoP, my gaunt...

Actually, I wanted to do that exact thing.
From a historical standpoint, would each be a distinct helm, or has a matching set been found?

Lead, Tin or Pewter?

I am looking for a non-marring block of metal. It was suggested that I get either lead or pewter, with pewter being the safer....but I also found a Tin supplier and Tin is a bit softer.... but is it too soft?

Any guidance would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Chicago area armorers - Steel sources?

I am checking online as well, but I thought I would go to those who have already weeded through and found good quality/decently priced sources for 304 SS and 1050 Spring.

Any assistance to shorten my search would be greatlty appreciated.

Thank you

In part, yes. You need the person (people) in power to officiate the change. HOWEVER, if the majority of the populous is demanding (by voice or action) that a change be made, that power can make the change or be molled over and the change with happen. In the SCA, power changes hands every 6 months. ...

For SCA use, at least in the Middle, I believe that you would also need to add some sort of padding under the metal. If I remember the rules correctly from the last time I read them (a few weeks ago) and they have not changed (again), it is required that you have hard over soft for finger/hand/wrist...
