I think the idea has merit. It may not be immediately effective, but if we are (being a paying member of the SCA) going to raise the bar to what it should be and beyond, then it has to start somewhere. Seneschal is a volunteer position and can change on a yearly basis. It may take some time, but if ...

A few other things to keep in mind when authorizing: --Know the difference between the Rules of the List and the Conventions of Combat. They are different and cannot be interchanged. Many thanks to all for your input. Eric - I would LOVE any information you would be willing to part to me. My prefered era is the late 14th century, and I am wanting a tourney helm. I love the look of the greathelm, from its origins, and am looking for a good next "official" project to work on alone...

I am looking for a deep creased bowl on the top that has a better glancing surface - If you compare the shape of CLANG's: m With Sinric's: m both of which are nice helms, in pattern and construction, You will see the differences of which I speak. The creased dome top is deeper and the front top plat...

Why not just modify some of the patterns you have access to? Get creative and come up with a "might have been." I am looking for an accurate pattern. I have seen pictures of an extant example that looks *very* similar to CLANG's. I am looking to maintain historical accuracy for this one. I will pla...

Seeking a different greathelm pattern
I am worked with both patterns I found on the archive. I am looking for something else. I was checking out a few of the archive armorer's site and found one I like the shape of - on CLANG's site.
Is there another pattern available?
Thank you in advance....

Trimaris - Barony or Darkwater area (Orlando)
I know this may be a bit early but I am trying to plan ahead.
All goes well, I should be down in the Orlando area the weekend of June 25th. I was wondering if their were any events, practices, etc. that I might be able to crash.
Thank yo uin advance...

As I have only fought in one tourney and multiple melees/battles, I would have to say that I have 2. In my first an only tourney, I missed the quarter finals by 1 fight in a tourney of about 50 people. Never seen anything written or extant showing holes in a gambeson, or any other type of arming cote. Wool is definitely going to be hot. Ever think of changing to linen? As to the cut of your fabric, make sure it is VERY tailored to your body. bring the arm hole on the body as close up under your ar...

Archive patterns....
I have decided to make a greathelm. I chose Sinric's greathelm pattern from the archive to work. I printed the pattern at 100% straight from the site. I did a cardboard mockup of the helm, just to be safe, cuz I have a rather large melon.... Well.... The mock up MIGHT fit a 5 year old. Is there an a...

My friend and mentor, Charles Mellor, created this diagram of the method for recreating the eyelet stitches found in 14th century clothing scraps in London. I have heard tale of a cheater method of hand stiching eyelets... you still hand stitch them, but the look perfect. I have never done this, but I was told that you start with a small grommet and then run your stitched around it. Obviously, if you are doing slit button holes, this does not work, but....

I am unaware of the accuracy of this and do not vouche for any truth to it, but thought it was rather interesting. Late 14th Century The origins of the middle finger gesture date back to the hundred years war. The French, due to the threat of the English longbowman accuracy threatened, or started re...

No, Bob, I don't. But experimental weapons are just that; not currently covered by the regs. Rawhide when wetted and dried is extremely stiff and hard, and I'd be concerned that it would overly stiffen the blade. If so, and I think it likely, more so than a leather strip would, I wonder how it is a...
