Fabric and thread....

Ok,

I think I know the answer to this, but just in case, I will ask.

What type of thread was used for stiching garments together?
Did the thread vary from fabric type to fabric type? (i.e. - Silk fabric used silk thread - Linen fabric used linen thread...)

Thanks!

I like the question.

But I do believe it is dependent on those involved. I think that it would hold sway based upon who was there. Sir, Duke, or King.

Yes, it is war, but we ARE playing a game. Personally, I would ask, and I would honor if asked.

My two pence.

I have seen many pictures and understand the articulation process and how the fit to the full greave. What I have not been able to find is a picture or description or drawing of what it looks like from the bottom.

Would anyone out there be able to assist?

I find it hard to believe as well. I wore a 12ga slatted kettle w/grille that had a 1/4 bar reinforcing the rim and a full coif that all total weighed 18 lbs - As far as weight. The coat of plates that I wear is lined with a 10oz piece of leather over the shoulders, which has a 1/4" piece of foam under that. I helps with glancing helm shots and inner shoulder shots. The spaulder that I wear covers most of the shoulder point area.

Buttons, buttons - Part Deux

Since the previous thread seems to have been dominated by the gambeson button issue, I would like to address my other question here separately. What type of button would be best suited on a lesser noble cotehardie in the late 14th century? Cloth? Wood covered cloth? Metal? If metal, what type - bras...
