Just to make sure...remember that your knoggin is not perfectly round, so the shape of your helm should reflect the shape of your head.

Re: 14th century quillons?

Yes, you could strike the face of your opponent, but as long as the quillons do not extend more than 1/2" past the gauntlet, there is no way for them to be in violation of the weapon regulations. Of course, I defer to your experience with the matter. I do not deny that it is POSSIBLE for the s...

Re: 14th century quillons?

It shall not be possible to force any part of a weapon which may reasonably be expected to contact an opponent during combat more than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) into a legal face guard. Rattan weapons may have a handle section which is less than 1 1/4 inch (31.8 mm), so long as it meets this criterion. Co...

Re: 14th century quillons?

I am not entirely convinced of that argument, Kenwrec. I made a quillion of 1/4" roundstock that is flat on the side-view, but wide on the top view. It could, in theory, go through a helm. However, the quillion does not extend past my gauntlets, meaning in punching you in the face before there...

Re: 14th century quillions?

Regretably, something like that will not work well with SCA combat, as the quillions would be able to go into a helm. All projections on an SCA weapon cannot go any deeper than 1/2" into the bars/eyeslots of a helm.

Re: St George - Hradcany Square - Body armour - Update!

I don't think it is, I drew it out and I think it it too long. If the scale size was set to 1/2 x 3/4, that would merely mean slightly cheaper cost. The quote I sent was a quick thing just to get a general price range. If the scale is 25% smaller, I am sure that would reduce the cost by a small amo...

It's debatable, certainly, but I think this image is a pretty strong argument for a hoop style tent. Pictures, pictures, pictures and more pictures.

Pictures of extant suits and pieces, of tools, of what pieces look like in mid shaping.

*EDIT*

Oh, and pointing things out in the pictures...like how the shape of that 14th century polyen from that angle looks kind of like a gothic arch.

This stuff is similar to the d3o stuff. Many of the demonstrations that d3o did was with some of their product on someone's head and hitting them with a shovel pretty hard. Given the nature of it, I think that with the hard layer over it, you would not get that hard compression as you would if it we...

Re: centergrip question

I have a question in regards to how you are holding the shield.

If you are holding it against your arm, why not just use a strapped shield? A big part of the advantage of a centergrip is mobility and manueverability. holding it against your arm significantly reduces that advantage.

I am of the mind to offer a courteous salute to my opponent, but do not see the same from all others on the field. Some do it, some do not. While I appreciate the "gentlemanly" courtesy it shows, I do not expect or require it. How a person approaches their start to a bout is up to them.
