Re: Late 14th/early 15th century tent styles
Would there be any information on the hoop design (meaning the hoop itself, not the canvas)? Material? construction method? Etc... Thanks! Kenwrec, If you mean information about surviving examples, the answer is, sadly, no. This is not a surprise, of course. Of the tens of thousands of tents which ...

As for the attachment method - I have done the riveting through the leathers and glove and tore through that way about once a year and have to redo them. I have been using the rivet through leathers and stictch the leathers to the glove method and they are not tearing anywhere, but I need to find a ...

Re: Finger Gauntlets - Leather Recommendation?
It is a thicker, supple veg tanned leather that is usually dyed black. It is about 5oz or so. It has a little bit of "stretch" to it, but very durable. Its called biker leather because it is the stuff most commonly used for biker jackets and chaps, so I understand.

While certainly not definitive, the Osprey books are a reasonable reference, and they break things down regionally and chronologically.

I use "biker" leather, but it still wears out. I was going to do the same again this next time, but run a reinforcement stitch with sinew to see if that helps.

That mottling is where the metal goes from that lovely coppery/bronze into purple. Your oven might not have been quite accurate. That coloration usually comes around 485 degrees. Awesome color though.
Mayhaps I will get to hit it at Pennsic, my friend!

There are two effigies (found small line drawing on gothiceye) that depict lion spaulders. I have also never found/seen any images of the actual effigy, just the line drawings. The...

I lead with a shot to an opening on my opponent, cautious that it is a trap. I then see how they react. Followup is based on reaction. If they know it is an opening, it has a trained response. If not, the response is often more erratic. This is also, for an opponent with whom I am not familiar, a wa...

On painted helms: There is actually documetation of painted helms being illegal in England in the latter part of the 14th century. Merchants were finiding old helms that were rusted and inferior and painting them, then selling them as new. The Medieval "Lemon Law" - I like it! Do you perc...

Re: Pembridge helm details
From what I have seen in manuscript illustrations, I would actually say that in the mid 14th century, painted great helms were actually fairly uncommon. Late 13th to early 14th century is a different matter, and they seem reasonably common then. But by the mid 14th, they are usually depicted as bar...

I average 3 months with 1 practice a week and 1 or 2 events a month. Unshaved rattan, usually slims sticks - 1 1/4 to 1 3/8. I get dense sticks, however. More or less fighting will obviously extend or decrease the lasting time.
