Interesting test and worth doing. Thanks for the info. Your 600-650 tempering temp seems about right. I personally don't like tempering for that long however, but that's just me. Walter von Hohenklinger was the best I found too. He has a very interesting helm.

He (the effigy) is a bit late (1386) for the pieces I did for you, but could still be a viable option.

Instead of slathering vasoline put the plaster over a shirt. If you wanna put it on bare skin be advised that it will heat up. And it will pull your chest hair vasoline or not so shave first. On the all cotton vs linen.... I wore a 100% cotton gambeson for years. Was ok, and with every use, saturated with wet, sweat and etc... even in winter here in Chicagoland. Last year(?) I made a linen shell, wool stuffed gambeson. 3 layers med wt linen, 1 layer heavy wool. I can now fight 50% longer...
