Ugo has done them as well. Might find them searching for "bifercated"... If that is spelled correctly.

No...I actually meant Gruber's, not just his work. He was there at Val Day.

I second Sir Leo and the Drealord's comments, but understand your reasoning. We will have to hookup elsewhere to deliver the polyens and couters. I am sure, if there is a free weekend I might be able to drag some people down your way and we could make a big practice out of it.

So is this statue depicting scale armour as the armour under the CoP or is it a bit of artist interpretation? And if so, is this more of an eastern European thing for this time frame, and does anyone have any more source showing this set up on more people?? I'm liking the look alot, and thinking ab...

I do not believe that the effigy depicts anything on the legs but for the greaves. The rest, even artistically, looks like it is just fabric.

IMHO

YMMV

If I am remembering correctly, the statue was partially destroyed and reconstructed in the mid 15th century - 1450-ish. I have no details on what was destroyed and restored, other than it was partial.

I have studied this COP quite a bit as well. My conclusions on the plate direction is in the horsemans manner. The plates are rivetted under the arm and along the back very close to the edge of the garment. I dont think they are decorative, as there is a second row at the immediate edge of the cove...

Personal tastes in armour run in the latter 14th century, but I will try anything. I guess because of my own personal tastes, that is where my focus is, since my research has been more prevalent in that area.

St George statue @ Hradcany - Body armour - thoughts

The few extant pieces, at least available publicly, are of the smaller plates, in small amounts (save one partial of the large &qu...

Re: Questions for a professional smith/armorer

I am not a professional, but I can answer some of these for you... 2. What made you want to become a smith? First, a love of history...and a love of being creative. Combine the two and armour was the logical conclusion. 3. What skills are involved in becoming a smith? Being able to use a hammer very...
