Wow, I didn't even know this discussion was here. Thanks, Justus for pointing it out. I'm trying to catch up on two pages of discussion, but let me try and just address the latest bits first. For the love of all that's holy, please don't let this turn into a rapier vs. heavy discussion. I do both, o...

Nice pics! Good job, Blackstone! The next group over from me is holding the Pas d'armes de l'Arbre d'Or in a couple of weeks. Me & Mr. Polehammer are looking forward to it! Gotta get my aventail finished. Josh, I bet you could hold a Pas in your...

First of all, you'd get a better result if you ask here.
Secondly, my (completely invalid in the midrealm) opinion is that it'd be fine so long as you only use it for heavy rapiers and not for foils or epees.

I've always wanted to put together a game of Stoolball. Apparently (and I could be wrong on this) it's a 14th Cen women's game. Forerunner of cricket and baseball. Reputedly invented by milkmaids with stools, buckets, and rocks.

If one of the above (showing pregnant or someone I know has a medical condition that should not be on the list) shows up, I would be as subtle as I could trying to dissuade them from participating. This would include having any and all members of the Chiv that I know well to assist. I've seen somet...

Persian/Central Asian armour painting
I scanned in this pic today of Isfandyar fights the Simurgh , which shows a pretty complete set of of persian armour. It looks like a lot of armours I've seen for Persia & central Asia, all the way out to Mongolia and Tibet. I think he's wearing a lamellar shirt, split for skirts on the thighs (like...

Beg your pardon?
I love the 'before and after' pics of the SCA. Reminds me of my own progress.

People drag up all sorts of historical stuff from hundreds of years ago as an excuse to go kill each other. Doomed to repeat history and all that! In other news, I recently found out about Vásquez de Ayllón , who apparently made it as far north as the Chesapeake Bay, and may have founded a settlem...

No pics for us, James? Unbelievables: The "Scandinavian" Buddha. (and remember, one group has a "only one Buddha per reenactment gig" rule) The statue of Lakshmi found in Pompeii. Anything by Negroli. The 'tribal' etching on the L pauldron on A 50 in the Wallace Collection. There is a three book te...
