Currently we are developing light weapons rules that will work well with the surrounding Kingdoms. Sir William(KEM), myself and a few others have been looking into this for over a year with great input from the underground fencing community in Calontir. One of our primary issues was getting them to...

Andrew, you've seen my gauntlets from Duke Kelson. You handled them at last St. Paddy's Day Bloodbath. His website is GK Armory. I love them. I've taken shots directly to the hand and not felt more than a bit of a jar.

I wish I would think more..... Robyn I am bumping this because I'd like to see Freiman bite Sarnac in the leg. And - Robyn, This is a subject of neurophysiology I'm studying pretty intently right now. A lot of that 'thinking during fighting' bit comes from training your frontal cortex, which gets w...

This topic is a minefield. And there is no way to express feelings on it without probably stepping on a mine somewhere along the way, much less planting a few of our own. I cordially disagree with my friend Syr Justus, even though I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. And I studiously avoid...

Well, I don't ever remember reading anywhere that it was required for a crown to have a champion from every aspect of activities in the SCA. ( I could be wrong on this but I don't think I am). Besides it is good to shake up the bottle now and then and see what floats to the top. According to legend...

However, I think a bigger problem she might face on the huge field at Pennsic isn't some big bruiser out to get her goat or not even noticing she's there and accidentally planting a boot on her helm. I think it's going to be some freaked-out Marshal screaming 'hold' and stopping the battle because h...

If I am training new fighters for rapier (I don't train new fighters for heavy, I"m not NEARLY anywhere qualified for that yet), I start by putting a sword in their hand as quickly as possible. For two reasons. One, it gets them hooked. Two, it gets them familiar with using a sword. After they've 'p...

I've seen the stuff on wiki, and that other site. Basically, you have the gist of it - it's a particular type of spanish shield. They got it from the Muslims, who brought it over from Africa.

I had one stint as a Royal Champion; to Countess Caia when she sat the Atlantian Throne. 2 months into my term, I was running across the field at Estrella (which at the time was a FURROWED FARM FIELD ) when I went down and ripped my ankle to shreds. I was 'benched' for the rest of the reign, and eve...
