Nissan,

Although such an offer from a fearsome brigand such as yourself is compliment indeed, I can do no better than to stand against your tide and lead my brethren into the promised land of good beer.

Or the after party. Whichever comes first.

BUZZSAW BURGEONET!! (pic works now)

So, a friend of mine is going through the Chicago Museum of Art and she snaps off some pictures of armour for me. And in the process, got a shot of this little beauty. I saw it and immediately said to myself 'd00d! i could weld some old buzzsaws on one of those indian burgs and scare the DAYLIGHTS o...

All kidding aside, the observation I've made over and over again about SCA fencing is that they go out of their way to AVOID hitting each other. I'm totally hooked on the impact of rattan fighting. Personally I'd LOVE to fight with steel swords again but I dont see any fun in limiting targets or pu...

Freiman, There's lots of good resources out there for teaching. A quick google ought to get you some good results. In the meantime, here's some drills that might help. Thomas,

I haven't contacted the museum yet, but that's the next step. I'm not sure if this painting is currently in Canada (see above citation) or in the UK, so I'm not sure which museum to contact. I'll probably start with the Canadian museum - at least it's on this continent. :D

Hm. I'd love to be enlightened then, because my research shows that at least as far as chinese garments go, that particular sleeve was an affectation of the Qing dynasty (1644-1941) who wanted to be 'known' for their horsemanship.

However, I don't know much about Mongoria. :D

CAVEAT: I'm not that good. If I found myself in that situation, I'd shove on the butt end of the polearm. In a melee this'd slow his progress down and hopefully foul his buddies. In a tourney this'd hopefully keep him out of sword range. Speaking of that sword range, staying in that middle ground se...

D'OH! Thanks for reminding me Tim. Here it is, it's called a neitao. This particular garment is post 1600, but fabrics like it were all over SCA period.
