BUZZSAW BURGEONET!! (pic works now)
So, a friend of mine is going through the Chicago Museum of Art and she snaps off some pictures of armour for me. And in the process, got a shot of this little beauty. I saw it and immediately said to myself 'd00d! i could weld some old buzzsaws on one of those indian burgs and scare the DAYLIGHTS o...

All kidding aside, the observation I've made over and over again about SCA fencing is that they go out of their way to AVOID hitting each other. I'm totally hooked on the impact of rattan fighting. Personally I'd LOVE to fight with steel swords again but I dont see any fun in limiting targets or pu...

Hear hear, what the above persons said. Barber is right on about doing it correctly so as to prevent bad habits. Mostly, my suggestions were good for 'get 'em on the field and keep some interest', especially given your short time frame. Oh, and Animal, when you grow the b@lls to fight with actual st...

Freiman, There's lots of good resources out there for teaching. A quick google ought to get you some good results. In the meantime, here's some drills that might help. Have them look up & read Di Grassi, Capo Ferro, Saviolo, and Silver. Take your rapier, and draw small circles around a doorknob. Hal...

CAVEAT: I'm not that good. If I found myself in that situation, I'd shove on the butt end of the polearm. In a melee this'd slow his progress down and hopefully foul his buddies. In a tourney this'd hopefully keep him out of sword range. Speaking of that sword range, staying in that middle ground se...

D'OH! Thanks for reminding me Tim. Here it is, it's called a neitao. This particular garment is post 1600, but fabrics like it were all over SCA period. To make it congruous to our period, don't put the funny little attachments on the ends of the sleeves. Aside from that you should be golden. Good l...

Diomedes, you know you want to. All the cool kids are doing it. Oh man I can't wait for this battle now. Sir Graedwyn, as I know mercy can be a chivalrous virtue, still good Sir, I would not have you waste your tears of mercy 'pon this unverified horde. Rather, let the crows cull carrion from their ...

Well, this is progress! I happen to work at a university, so I toddled over to their reference section, and scanned in this little beauty. At least now I can clearly see the death part, although I would still love pictures of this shield from another angle, at least. Preferably a clearer image of th...

Upon the chain I wear, I make this vow: I will stand with Malcolm, Felix, Vitus, Sarnac and all good men at arms on May 20 at Aethelmarc War Practice. Let challenge boldly made be boldly met. An' it please Your Highness Malcolm, insofar as it is possible for a Baron of the Court of Atlantia to be indebted to a foreign Crown such as Yourself; if Your personage finds at the Great Estrella War, I would beg a lawful boon of Your Highness' good countenance and power, as to thump Jon Barber on...

Looking for different views of a surviving shield.
Good evening! I'm looking for different photographic angles of this shield - http://www.virtualmuseum.ca/Exhibitions/Valentin/Jpeg/fullbm011.jpg A fifteenth-century Flemish impresa shield showed a man standing between a Grim Reaper-like figure and a maiden. The motto above the knight reads: Vous ou ...

By Heaven, the Fates and the grace of the Almighty, this will not stand. This leader of brigands and defiler of fields cannot withhold the might of we who stand to oppose him. An' I can wend my way northward in spring, Sir Mord, I will stand with you, even if we are but two poor souls fighting the t...

Working on mine too. Did the weights this week, walked to work every day, only took the elevators once (my office is on the fifth floor). Dragged out all my half-finished SCA weapons. Gonna find some blue & white duct tape this weekend and finish my spear. Jon, you definitely need to fight more rapi...

If I greet you at an event as follows "Alejandro! Damn if it hasn't been a long time! How the hell are you" and continue in that vein, does it detract from the experience we are seeking? Would it be better to say "Your Excellency! It is a joy to see you anon!" and continue in that vein? My proper r...
