several fighters in Atlantia suggested terry cloth towels for batting???? Good grief. Towels are made to absorb moisture, it's true, but they're not made to transfer it. They're made to hold it in. I'm just imagining that thing getting thrown in an armour box after fighter practice and ending up fu...
Pretty soon I have to get started on a couple of sets of janissary clothing - gonna turn a couple of my householders into fearsome turks! Concurrently, I need to start on Russ Mitchell's hungarian clothing. frère jean-michel is very wise, and should be heeded in this matter. I would recommend beginning with learning to fall, in and out of armor. Even if we are not taking people to the ground, accidents happen and falling is a reasonable skill set to have prior to authorization. . I also agree that it ...
Looking closer, that doesn't look like a buttspike; that looks like a greatsword and a spear being held together. Blackbow Cordially, Jonathan, here's why I disagree with that assessment. 1. All the other pommels in that sequence look like that. 2. This is a series of greatsword pictures presented ...
Basic knowledge? Not at all. I've opened plenty of books, but my area of (claimed ) expertise doesn't even begin until around 1550 - so I'm completely ignorant on a lot of the stuff that's being discussed here, except for the fact that madus are crap. So when I am presented with; A corollary ...

Tatsuo, In the turkish thread, I was snarkier than I should have been. I hope you'll accept my apology for that. If I'm going to offer criticism (especially un-asked for) then I should have at least been constructive. In that vein, I hope you'll accept the following. Making a living as an armourer i...
There's a gentleman in southern Atlantia who got his Laurel for golf. He would make handcarved golf clubs. I would take up golf if I could get a club from him.
Anyone who has one of those Waterhouse paintings up in their house should take that painting down. They should take that painting, shoot it, burn it, and throw the ashes to the winds. And then they should replace it with t...
My suggestion is taking a looky-loo at the book by Osprey Publishing called Men-at-arms Series #200 El Cid and the Reconquista: 1050 - 1492 It's pretty much awesome-sauce, though brief. And it has awesome pictures. If you want to read it, feel free to PM me. VIVA EL CID! Even though he's dead.... J...
I've never seen a reference to painted armour. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, that just means I've never seen it. I've seen lots of references to 'blackened' armour, which could mean a variety of things. Blackening could be done a variety of ways.
