Brass casting

So, I'm at the range on Saturday (I really need more practice) and I see guys picking up spent shells for reloading. My brain clicks over and I start thinking about brass casting using spent shells for raw materials. Anybody ever done this? Does it work?

I know this is the Armour Archive and all, but armoured combat isn't the Society's only combat discipline; it strikes (har har) me that quarter staff stuff would be great for some of the historical martial arts programs in various kingdoms.
