There's no rush on it at all -- no specific time-frame. I also just realized that the measurements I listed were for the small one (They graduate from large near the base of the bowl to smaller at top.) I planned on having them all done to the same size and then "cutting them down" with a belt sande...

Special rivets -- Can anyone do some casting?

Hi, folks. Anyone know anyone who does casting? I need some oboshi rivets for a kabuto project, so these need to be pretty solid. This is what I need: http://sengokudaimyo.com/Tempstuff/rivetdome.gif What I'm planning on doing is using them as dress elements. The *actual* rivet will be a roofing nai...

Got it.

Unfortunately, it's not of much use.

The problem is the only helmet shape that can produc are hemispherical bowls. If you look at the patterns on my website, you'll see that none of them are simply even-sided arcs.

Well, there are a few enamelled ikons showing alternate yellow and blue plates, but honestly, this is almost certainly to be artistic convention,

Yellow = gold (or brass or bronze)
Blue = iron

And I'll bet your parrot that it wasn't said pre17thC. I'm not even gonna take that bet. A lot of our modern pirate cliches date directly to the old "Treasure Island" film (the 1934 version with Wallace Beery), when the director asked the actors -- some of them rather eccentric locals -- to really ...

Feel free, but the official pirate quote is "arrrrr" not "yarr." (Nor is it "argh" like that stupid TV commercial has it. Idiots.)

Major kewlness! Tenth century would be a little early for an akodanari, wouldn't it? I wouldn't think the akoda nari had appeared until the fourteenth century -- the tenth was -- damn, not much survives from then, but mostly the precursors to the daienzan/ô-boshi style. As to Masamune -- didn't y...

Well, given that that stuff is the golden age of pirates (early 18th century) and the SCA cutoff is 1600 --- no.

If you want to do "pirate" and SCA, you need to look at Raleigh, Drake, and the whole "sea dogs" thing.

Do you have any more posters or stuff then the "Odoshi no iroiro" on your webpage? Nothing specifically armourish. Is the bottom lame the same width as the other lames? Yes. Is the top plate always shaped like this and rounded on O-sode? Are there any examples of kanmuri ita that has a square shape...

There should be no difference. what makes is look wider is that it's a single solid plate, but the width of a muna ita is the width of a munaita, whether it's on a sendai do or an okegawa do.

Yup, those are correct measurements. And it's for the full sode, including the kanmuri ita.

Basically, the top of the kanmuri ita is even with the bottom of the ear or the jaw, and the bottom of the sode is at or a bit below the elbow.

A typical 13-14th century o-sode is 34.8 cm wide and 46.1 cm tall. That's for someone who was probably 1.6 meters tall.

Review: Armourer Eric

I got my new legs a few days ago, and have been playing with 'em. They're sweet. They're a bit snuggish, but I'm on a diet and that's not a problem with the armour. The lines are smooth, they've been planished and polished, and pre-strapped. All I have to deal with is the suspension. I couldn't be m...

All I was saying, really, is that the rules would appear to allow such things.

You know, there *is* that rule in place that says to attend an SCA function one must make an attempt at pre-17th C. outfit. Why is it so many people think that armour doesn't count?

As to not allowing a cross to be displayed that is incorrect. My registered device inlcudes two Malteses crosses.
