Eff - did your prezzies come with a brown afro wig so you could paint 'happy lttle trees'? No, but I was stunned to see that he had his own section in books. Ick. Absolutely ICK. Dont be hating on Bob Ross.. he's deceased. That doesn't get him off the hook. His painting and his effect on the art wo...

Erik is right and in all mediums. Paint, potery, etc... I have to agree. My maternal unit thinks I should get back to doing fine art things (painting, sketching, etc.) -- and she's right. I used to be good, but ignored doing anything for the last several years. Well, with some Xmas prezzies (a dece...

I knight of some twenty years, whom I know, has always had a ECW presona. He remembers when the cut-off was later than the oft stated 1600. Which could have been verified at any point by just looking at Corpora. Since day one of our published governing docs, the rule has been "pre-seventeenth centu...

When it comes to demos, I think you need to have your "sunday best" on when you are fighting Christopher, I agree wholeheartedly. Too many people, however, look at a demo as "another chance to fight." Tell those folks to stay at home; they can fight in the tourney or at fighters' practice. A demo i...

I know she like the Musketeer era, and has even read all the books. I like the era, too... and also have read all the books (including "20 Years After" and chunks of "The Viscount of (something)"; but the stories, set in 1635+, are beyond the SCA's period. I'd advise your young lady to do something...

Thanks, Irish.

FWIW, I tend to think it's a Victorian folly, as well.

Without actually studying it, I don't know if I can get more info on it, but that's a gut feeling.

Jon just sent me a picture of it (it's too large or I'd uplist it here) but it appears to be an ECW lobstertail pot, with a three-bar grilled visor. The lobstertail is one single piece that's been fluted to look like there are more (kinda). It's dark and rusty, and *possibly* original to the 17th C,...

I think that's getting a little pernickety about what constitutes a primary source. A contemporary illustration is certainly a primary source, but perhaps not totally reliable, as it involves artistic perception and skill. That's exactly *why* the distinction is made. The quality of the illustratio...

There are many good photos (some close-up enough for good detail work) in it. You should be able to get it from B&N or Amazon.
