I seem to recall being told of a very good source for things of the 14th Century being "The Paxton (or Paston) Letters". Does anyone have any idea as to what I am rambling on about??? I gotta admit... On a side note... This is the type of query that I just don't understand. I see it all the time in...

Ditto. I just sent this message: Glad to know you're still alive. Sorry to hear you're pulling out of the biz, though. You've got talent. In case my records were among the ones eaten by the computer crash (been there -- lost four months of work on the writing of a thesis and several chapters of a bo...

Pssst... Eff, you could always go to the "for charlotte" thread on OT and offer to be part of the "church"... Would there be an interesting pennance if I made a naughty confession? Actually, I've tried working with some of the softer fur bits, too (rabbit, in my case). It was a bear (okay, a rabbit...

By the way, I bought your 0200-1500 AD Samurai (maybe wrong title) off of Amazon and my wife was up until 3:30 AM reading it -- she said that it ranks with the Harry Potter series on readability and interest value. Thanks! I just hope it doesn't rank with Harry Potter for believability. No worries,...

Effingham, perhaps you are a bit quick to judge a culture you're not too aware of. Perhaps the one jumping to judge is not I. I have been in kingdoms with DP. I abhored it then, and I abhor it now. And I don't care how "curteous/chivalrous/kind/helpful/smart/kind-to-his-mother" a duke is -- if he (...

Personal rant: I think ducal perogative is shite. And I have less respect for any duke who uses it. Acting as "spoilers" in a tournament is little more than cheating, in my opinion. If you don't want the crown, don't fight. You have NO right to enter a tourney to knock other people out unless you're...

It's possible, but as a rule, I doubt it; that would be too unweildy, I'd think. One or two may be heavy mo-fos, but I just don't know. I'd hate to be in a battle swinging a 30 pound bat -- if I missed, the recovery time would be fatal Here's the photo: http://sengokudaimyo.com/Tempstuff/tetsubo001....

Okay, I've checked some refs. First, there's no single, official size. I'm looking at a photo of a pile of 'em. One is roughly the dimensions of a largeish baseball bat; the difference is that the "handle" (the part that you wrap with tape) is about 1/5-2 times longer than on the bat. The thing is h...

Some are -- just the usual one or two layers of fabric, or a leather backing. Most aren't, I think. Headband attachment is either with rivets or crosslaces -- you've got a bit of leeway with those. If you're doing the tied headband attachment, the ties seem to typically be extensions of a fabric lin...

There's not that much to them, nor much to tell. There are two types: Solid one-piece demi-bowls, and the same made up of horizontal lames (the latter sometimes can collapse, with rivet "hinges" at either temple). There are two fastening methods: One is a cloth foundation that wraps around the head ...
