I have a deep, dark love for Regency and Napoleonic/Empire fashions. I keep fantasizing about a Regency ball where we all waltz around -- and, dammit, I literally cannot hear waltz music without seeing gallant hussar officers in their dolmans and pelises whirling about, ladies on their arms. God, I ...

You know, I've been looking closely at these. Something has struck me as not right, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Then it hit me. THIS ISN'T FOR ME! WAAAAAHHHH!!!! (and it wouldn't fit, anyway) Damned nice work. Hey, everyone. LOOK at those pictures. THAT'S what it should look like. Effi...

Thats true. There were free blacks and there were other slaves held legally (and some just ignored), such as asians and indiginous people, as well. Indeed. One of the deep dark secrets of the ante-bellum era is freed-black slaveholders. People talking about oppression and slavery and "reparations" ...

And thanks for not addressing me as Fujiwara-hime on this forum. Hence "Aru utsukushiki kata ga kakikeri..." The problem with the Ritsuryô ranking system (i.e., the "court rank numbers") is that's it's very structured, and functioned very differently in Japan and in practicality than we use it. ...

It depends greatly on the worksmanship (as with any armour). While one can get away with a bit less than masterful work on metal and still look like armour, it's harder to do it right with plastic. Yes, it can be done, but it's difficult. I don't like plastic used for non-scale armour though, as I f...

I used Sugake Odoshi on the kusazuri, so obviously I will also use it on the sode. But if I used say five pairs of lace on kusazuri should I use the same number on sode or is it more a question of proportion ? It's proportional. Why should you use the same number of rows on sode? It's a different p...

Eff, I made a visor to the pattern you gave me and it's still lining up where it was before. It looks like I'd need to bend the koshimaki/visor to almost 90 degrees to get the sides of the visor to line up with the top of the koshimaki. You mean like this? http://sengokudaimyo.com/Tempstuff/no-viso...

Not at all bad. The hachi's pretty good. The only problem is the visor... You've got it placed way too high. The visor top should line up with the top of the koshimaki. Note the images below. http://www.sengokudaimyo.com/katchu/graphics/08graphs/sujibachi.jpg (That's part of the "developing the eye"...

Also, after I passed a test someone in my dojo advised me "when you win, tighten your helmet cords" (which seemed to mean "don't relax after success" or "don't rest on your laurels"). Does this mean that the cords work themselves loose & need attention during battle? No, it means don't let down you...

Well, as unfortunate as that might be, I had considered leather a bit of a step up from plastic... That's unfortunate, indeed. Remember. Japanese armour is what I live for. People think of J.armour, I want them to think of me. I live for the stuff. I would rather see a well-made suit of combat plas...

By the way -- Strong.... The thing is, lacquered metal or leather is thick and glosses up like plastic. It really doesn't matter *what* the armour is made out of, as long as it LOOKS like Japanese armour. Even the most authentic material (e.g., leather) doesn't work if the patterning and constructio...

Hey Eff! Do you want this thing Powder-coated or russetted? Hineno-jikoro deshoo? I WANTED to go with 16 ga. High carbon, but it's unavailable. I COULD make it from 1.5 mm HC but even with the overlap/ total weight you'd still have hell with the marshalls. Looks like it'll have to be 2mm hot rolled...

There is no rule. There are jingasa made from a single plate (panel, whatever) dished to the proper shape, some made from a rough circle with a single wedge removed to make a cone when the edges join, some made from multiple pie-shaped plates. There are shallow jingasa, steep and pointed ones, broad...
