I have a deep, dark love for Regency and Napoleonic/Empire fashions. I keep fantasizing about a Regency ball where we all waltz around -- and, dammit, I literally cannot hear waltz music without seeing gallant hussar officers in their dolmans and pelises whirling about, ladies on their arms. God, I ...

It's classical Japanese: "A certain beautiful person wrote:"

In modern Japanese it would be "Aru utsukushii kata ga kaita."

Yup.

You gotta LOOK at it if you wanna MAKE it.

Something I'm constantly telling people. A few get it. Many, it seems, just don't. Sigh...

You're definitely on the right track.

Thats true. There were free blacks and there were other slaves held legally (and some just ignored), such as asians and indiginous people, as well. Indeed. One of the deep dark secrets of the ante-bellum era is freed-black slaveholders. People talking about oppression and slavery and "reparations" ...

And thanks for not addressing me as Fujiwara-hime on this forum. Hence "Aru utsukushiki kata ga kakikeri..." The problem with the Ritsuryô ranking system (i.e., the "court rank numbers") is that's it's very structured, and functioned very differently in Japan and in practicality than we use it. ...

It depends greatly on the worksmanship (as with any armour). While one can get away with a bit less than masterful work on metal and still look like armour, it's harder to do it right with plastic. Yes, it can be done, but it's difficult. I don't like plastic used for non-scale armour though, as I f...

It's a different p...

Eff, I made a visor to the pattern you gave me and it's still lining up where it was before. It looks like I'd need to bend the koshimaki/visor to almost 90 degrees to get the sides of the visor to line up with the top of the koshimaki. You mean like this? http://sengokudaimyo.com/Tempstuff/no-viso...

Don't trash it. The bowl's still good. Just chisel off the visor.

Did you get the visor patterns I sent you?

If the front is cut too high, you *can* use a hineno visor on it. It would be unusual, but not wrong by any means.

Not at all bad. The hachi's pretty good. The only problem is the visor... You've got it placed way too high. The visor top should line up with the top of the koshimaki. I'd have to take something apart to re-create a pattern. (I don't like the idea of "faking" one.)

Mykaru, do you have a functional hineno-jikoro pattern on hand?

They're patterns and instructions for Japanese armour. The medium is irrelevant.

My patterns are real ones-- it'll take you awhile. Yama Kaminari uses shortcuts for making armour so people can get out and start fighting in a day or two. It's your choice.

The problem is that I don't have an existing hard-copy pattern for it. That *was* my pattern. I clean up the patterns on the computer, and that's usually what I keep -- I throw away the messy "test" patterns and working patterns, and keep the clean "electric" copy.

If you are going to order anything from Minamoto, please insist that they actually make JAPANESE armour that follows a real Japanese pattern, rather than buying something that only suggests Japanese-ness.
