Thanks, all. I just got back from having the car fixed (oy, my poor whimpering Visa card!) and all is set. I'll do some garblaundry tonight and hit the road tomorrow.

Thanks T-Bob, but I'm covered (so to speak :) ).

Tell ya what, Mike. If you can find something I can put a sleeping bag and pillow and some clothes in, I'll go. And I'll bring some books and bits you can play with.

I'd love to go, but, dang it, it's seven hours away and not-daytrippable. Unfortunately, I don't have anything paviliony, and I'm tired of sleeping in the car at events.

Poo. I'd love to go. Dang. Poo. Other naughty words.

Is the SCA something you got into AFTER the marriage? Or is this a case of -- as Dr. Laura would say -- one of you didn't really know the other when you got married? Did you not know she was the way she is, or did she not know your involvement? Either way, tough situation to be in. Maybe that's why ...

Of course, it's not a five-plater (well, it HAS five plates, but it's haramaki)

Count the plates. Front. Left. Right. Left back. Right back. That's five. :)

Umm . . . you said it's only the most common color. Ahem.

:)

Pound away! 8)

That's good to know. I just today sent RF an e-mail asking about getting some legs. I'm tired of waiting for Armourworks to come across with that "one week" order.

Okay, this is the tateage (which should be slightly more curved, I think) and the nagagawa (which needs to be less curved at the top) You're right -- the tateage needs more curvature. The nagagawa looks okay. Although I think the warp at the bottom is a bit wonky... It's a bit deep, and not as even...

Are you still willing to send out those image CDs you mentioned in another thread? Sure. Eff, if you read this thread again, I'm using your patterns , but I may need to re-punch holes about 1/8" up where the 4th and 5th nagagawa lames meet. Is this normal, or am I dishing it wrong? I have some very...

Well, I'm working on the hard-copy version now. More info, a few more patterns, etc. It's topping 200 pages, I think, currently. It's slower slogging, as I'm trying to update the graphics. Since it's being printed B&W, I'm making vector files of a lot of the photographic stuff that I just don't have...

Fair enough. I was actually looking at ordering from RF myself, and was hoping for some feedback on whether my impressions are good or wrong. Umm... Chris? Are you the king of Midrealm? I don't think you should be using those arms... Comment, though, on Ashcroft-Baker and Red Falcon. Looking at the pictures on their websites, I'd think there'd be problems with articulation. None of those knee cops seem deep enough, and Ashcroft-Baker has ...

So it seems like somebody during charlemagnes reign thought there were non-christian knights.

The Song of Roland is also fiction. It says that they Muslims worship Apollo and that Charlemagne was over a century old.

I'm pretty sure our pronunciations are the same. Hey, one man's la is another man's lo (I'm thinking "lot"). If we could do IPA here it would be easier. :)

Just as long as you're not going "TEER-" we're fine. :)

Please note that the name is pronounced CHAR-loH (where the "H" is the sound in the German "ach"), not TEER-lock.

It's okay. The part missing was the part where the new knights were supposed to say some arcane greeting in Latin, and the Jewish guy was so excited about being knighted, forgot the Latin phrase, and instead said the first "non English" thing to pop into his mind...

Bingo, Mike. That's the thing with late period armours, even of laced lames: they're solid, and get treated as if they were solid, so only one hinge per "point" of hingeing.

Ah, well, I'll always have the online manual.

Ah, but will you?

how accurate are the armor in Last Samurai? Hmmm. Well, comme-ci, comme-ça. They reproduced some really odd things, and it would almost make it seem as if they were common -- but then again, they were also doing the very end of the Edo period. Japanese armours then tended toward "weird." If you ...

Aaron: It's very much a case of dealing with someone who knows what they're doing. I've seen some nice suits made by folks using Usagi-tei's methods. I've seen a lot more crap. If the armourer has the eye, and knows what he wants to get, he can ignore the parts of their patterns that are bogus (look...
