I'd love to order a set of Milanese legs -- God knows I need legs. But my discretionary armour money has already been spent, a postal order sent months ago, to Armorworks -- and I can't afford a *second* order now. And if, by some miracle, legs materialized from Armorworks, I wouldn't be able to use...

For the record, yumi cannot be used on an SCA battlefield. They require too much length of draw -- far more than the official "inches per pound" ratio, measured from a common longbow or recurve. Second, you need arrows a foot longer than everyone elses. Third, the cheap, practise fiberglass yumi sta...

Just this afternoon I finished the new nodowa pattern for the website. Now I'll go back and add a kozane to it in case anyone ...

Two more question if you allow me, first did you had time for this picture of the "putting on a japanese armor", second is there traditional colour used for armor piece beside red and black ? Dang, sorry, Dale. I misread your "laces" as "lames." Sigh. More coffee. Must drink more coffee... That sounds like it would work -- but it really does depend on the measurements. Four sets of laces across the front would be fine for someone who has a 36" waist line... but for someone with my waistl...

There's no reason you can't use the same sized odoshi for sode, kusazuri, and dô. It's just not commonly done with the real thing. But it wouldn't be a horrid mistake for a replica suit for fighting. As to the odoshi -- you may in for a problem. You should be using polypropylene or nylon. Cotton ...

Frankly, that's an understandable sentiment. Of course, the whole basis of my order, though, was that it was originally an in-stock item that was then set to be made special by one of their subcontractors (apparently) as it was needed urgently. Well, I guess was is the operative part of that sentenc...

I saw Hearts and Armor when I was a kid, and wondered how Tanya Roberts was supposed to be an Arabic Princess or something. The armor was interesting, but you could see that it wasn't period, nor was it made out of appropriate weight metals for the gear it was supposed to be portraying (I remember ...

Hagakure is interesting as a cultural study if you keep in mind where and when it was written. Unfortunately, most of the idio... er, people... who worship the book lack the discernment to realize that. Hagakure was the demented rantings of a psychotic retired warrior-wannabe with a deathwish from a...

I've NEVER seen a japanese armor beit period or SCADIAN first hand. Have you never watched Kagemusha, Ran, Samurai Banners, Shogun, or any of a hundred samurai films? You have to look at what you're seeing. I guess that the "warp out" of the lower lame should help the sash not to slip ? Nope. It ke...

I've also found that they shrink slightly when I print them out. Thank goodness most of the patterns use the 1/4" square graph paper, which I can then enlarge to get the proper size. That's why I do all my patterns as PDFs. They always are 1:1 in printing, and if there's a specific reduction, all I...

Hey Eff, love the updates you've done to your page, looks really sharp. I was wondering though if you have any good patterns for the kote foundation. It should be up there now. My Haidate hang very well, but I imagine they are on the heavy side, unless I tie them well, they have a tendancy to fall down. But then again I used wide nylon webbing for the himo, so it is difficult to tie tight. Have you tried using the over-the-shoulder cord method? Lestat: I wouldn't worry ab...

What about a Haidate? Were these padded and / or would a padded one (especially at the hips) be out of place? What do you guys do, other than parry or suck it up? Haidate weren't padded, and in any event, only cover the front half of the body. Frankly, I've never taken a hip shot that solidly that ...
