Kikko aren't hard to make. Start with a strip of steel (or plastic if that's what you're into for kikko) and set up a jig on a drill press to drill all the holes. When the holes are drilled, just snip them off the strip.

Okay, I love you. But, um, in a manly, shoulder-slapping, butch sorta way.

Seriously, I have bits and pieces out of what would be nine different kits (if you count the Japanese ones, too). And not one of them is in fighting condition right now. Sigh...

I'm working on that, though.

You really need a period. It puts a context on the garment.

You have to think of it as a garment, and as a part of the kit. There is no such thing as a "universal generic gambeson."

This is a great frustration.

For the record, there is no such thing as "family arms" (at least in the Anglo-French tradition) -- arms belong to a single individual, and are inherited unchanged in a line unbroken eldest son to eldest son. Those arms aren't YOURS unless you are the oldest of the oldest of the oldest (etc.) of the...

Gaston: A few years ago, one of the residents of AA (Apocalypse -- what ever happened to him?) did an armour from one of my patterns and russetted the thing. He wrote an essay on the russeting process and I thought he put it in the archive here. If not, I'll see if I can find a copy of it. Effingham

The only thing is that we tend to wear turnshoes less than our dress shoes; it'll take longer to "scuff" Image.

I recommend just hitting the soles with some sandpaper for a minute or two.

What, you've never owned a pair of quality dress shoes?

Real honest-to-God leather soled shoes are slippery as hell until you've walked in 'em and scuffed 'em up a bit.

Yes. It is a landed title, and in the SCA, "thegn" is used as the equivalent to "Baron".

The guy's arm was "stuck" in the door so that a person could go get and then use a machete? Stuck so that he couldn't get it out or force the door open? Or shoot blindly?

I'm sorry, this smacks of BS.
