Oh, not real death, but the fact that it was a very important part of life then. One of the strangest moments I had as a re-enactor was when we were doing a American Civil War tactical. We were in a line, firing and we were getting flanked on one side, and our position was getting compromised. Peop...

I think Mistress Morgan Athenry, proprietor of Acanthusleaf Designs, is the original vendor of those rings... They are wonderful. All her jewelry is gorgeous. Morgan is pretty gorgeous herself. Re: The most amazing 13thC Samurai resource

What are the white rings at the left hip of all the horsemen? It is a white wickerwork thing resembling a hollowed out yoyo (or a donut with a hollowed out "equator" called a "tsurumaki" -- it is a piece of equipment that holds a spare bowstring, which is wound around its core. ...

What the others said, generally.

The Q. I have is: "Wisby? Really?" ;)

I mean, yeah, it's a CoP, but I don't recall any Wisby CoPs of that pattern.

For the record, CoPs (at least in the Wisby mold) cover the torso -- the chest and gut -- and that's about all.

I think basing a color choice off of the Bayeux Tapestry like that is kind of ... well, perhaps not the best choice. There's a limited palette of colors, and the embroiderers go a little nuts in places. (Check out the blue horses, or horses with randomly-colored legs, etc.) I always figured the hor...

Considering how enamored the Japanese were with European things, *IF* a samurai developed an interest in rapier, he would probably go overboard with EUROPEAN GEAR for it.

Origin: Probably from Middle English blasoun, shield, from Old French blason.*

One thing: the hoist (the pole side) is always DEXTER. So the "back side" of the flag -- what you have showing at the top, with the pole on the picture's right -- is backwards. That's why the US flag on planes and shoulders has the canton in the top RIGHT (instead of the top left) -- you'r...
