If passing them through the maille is a pain (sounds like it is) you could point them to your cop, i cant speak for its authenticity but it would be a solution

they appear to be a standard tube rivit. Tandy, us leathers etc all carry these types of rivits IF the back looks exactly like the front they are likely a double capped tube rivit, if the rivit has a hole in it on the back side they are a single cap. pretty much the same rivit only one is designed t...

Thanks Wade, that was well put. I enjoyed the book, that being said i enjoy osprey books, lakings books, stones book etc. I grab up what i can on the subject. Being self tought i cant fault any techniques in the book as im sure many professional armours would cringe at some of the things i do. There...

I do see alot of nasty work, but i dont usually comment on it. I spend alot of time on my grills when a helm requires one. Alot of mine are fairly time consuming, but if i helmet has to have a grill i dont want to to interfear with the helms appearance. I like a squared look, but i wont buy square s...

16 should be fine, you could use 18 for the lames, but 16 would work there as well.
I would avoid the 12 ga for anything but a helm

The best sca gauntlets ive seen were close copies of a 15th century milanese gaunt.
I agree with flozy, many sca gaunts are nasty.
I think many sca fighters dont realy want to pay the money needed for an exacting replica that still works for heavy list fighting.

I didagree with Flonzy that an sca armourer will not make them as well, being an sca armourer and an owner of armour from BestArmour, and having resized gauntlets and a breastplate from them. Their work is quite nice, their prices are very reasonable, welds are nice, shapes are nice as well. Items i...

I use a 3/4 hp 1750 rpm motor for all of my surfacing, i have zero complaints.
I use an expanding wheel for surfacing and i have found that high rpm motors will waste my belts very fast.
I do prefer a slower motor, but you will find that diff armourers with diff setups often achieve the same results.

I tend to avoid a jigsaw whenever possible, but on the occasion i need one its usually to cut complex shapes.
I use a thin piece of wood and clamp my steel to it, this solves the vibration issue.
I also use a variable speed saw.
The wood is consumed but its just usually scrap.
