Areas of france were quite behind the times, so depending on where you are from you could make do with older more dated gear

This is pretty interesting, Am i correct in assuming that these tinned decorative pannels were attatched to a leather cap that goes on over an iron helm. I had always assumed they were directly fixed to the iron cap.
I cant imagine why you would do this, id love to know more.

What ga the material is sold as is not an accurate representation of the actual thickness. Sheetmetal sold as 16 ga can actually be 17 ga, current US steel standards allow for a enough of a varience that actual thickness can be all over the place. My last sheet of 16 ga was to thin, after discussing...

The coppergate maille is attatched to a rod/wire that was rolled then slit to accomodate the maille.
You need to be more specific in regards to helmet type

Jean Paul, i think you will find the square socket more correct. I had 8 ft shipped ups to my door for just 26.00. Im not a weapons expert but i imagine square and round sockets are particular to weapon type, although if i were to do around socket i think it would just roll a cone shaped socket. I d...

I have severe carpal tunnel, my grip is quite poor, the strapping of a gauntlet is just enough to compond the problem to the point that the weapon flys grom my grasp upon impact, this is also the reason i dont fight poll or spear

I can post some pics of the ones i made a little later today, i based mine of of long sword pics in Talhoffers.
