Another Kettlehat in progress (pic)

This is not a copy of anything in particular, just a combo of some diff elemtnts that ive seen and liked, Im sure people will live in fear for their rattan because of brow cutout. The top is 12 ga, and it was a pain to do the scalloped edge on it, the brim is 13ga I still have a fair amount of "clea...

So he is about 2.5 months late? could be alot worse, I think that lateness is excusable provided there is comunication involved. I hope you get your hat soon, his work looks nice and clean.

I try to stay out of other armourers buisness, i have a decent rep, and ive worked hard to get it, but referring to him as "some guy" helps no one, If this is a professional armourer and he is cheating you, and possibly others then letting people know who to avoid will do a service the the armouring...

No real secret, i use 80 through 220 grt belts and then follow it up with emery compound on a sisal buff, i use the same process on mild and stainless.
Once im done on the buffer i wipe the piece with never dull and clean it of with a rag.

No wonder Vitus left, a seriously derailed thread. I hardly check this board at all, it always seems to be the same people doing the same fingerpointing, quite sad Vitus you will be missed, you had a grasp of chivalry that is so needed in the sca and the world in general. We dont usually piss and mo...

Garreth, as for the cheeks, i dont have a scanner, and as for size and scale that depends on the size of the helm, its potential owner etc, Im confident you can pattern the cheeks your self, if you want send me the envelope and ill mail you mine, but i think you can get it if you try, make several o...

Gerreth, check out Dawn of Time Crafts http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/4774/
He has built a similar helm with cheek plates.
His work (Ivor Lawton) is outstanding, he realy does a nice job capturing the shape and feel of the period

Tweedles assumption that these hels draw upon roman helms seems pretty likely Garreth, the helms he is referring to , the heavy and light can helms are roman indeed, but rome adopted from the Sassinads, so Roman influences dont need to be Roman in origin If you want to know whats under my helms with...

"Preying on people" sounds a little harsh to me, people on this forum buy from "metal mart" and other mail order steel companys, are they preying on people as well? I dont think there is a problem with his pattern, its just that paper wont hold an almond shape unless you tape a piece of almond shaped wire to it.
I think the pattern will produce a fine helmet

Matt, its made from 4 pieces, Ill likely make the next from 3, this was one of those "figguring it out" types of helmets. I was more concerned with the slats and grill and its position on the head, making sure it sat on the head in a "leaned back" fashion Jean Paul, nothing fancy on the grill, the c...

I agree the siloflex weapon (high pressure direct burrial water line) does not greatly decrease weight, Infact my siloflex sword with bronze viking lobed pommel set is by far the hardest hitting sca sword ive seen. Ethilrist is correct, the maile is sewn to a leather belt. The hidden slats are on the inside of the helm, creating gap, the top row of rivits holds on the brow band, the bottom row of rivits goes through the belt and through each slat. On the face plate there is enough room to hide more of the belt...
