Sometimes i start at 120, depends on how my day has gone, but i do pay alot of attention to whats ending up on teh floor. Some one here mentioned wanting a 10 ga top because 12's were denting, i think there are some calibration issues out there http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif

Brodir, id avoid anodizingm as stated it does not hold up well in metal to metal contact, infact anything slightly abrasive wilol wear it off, the aluminum pedals on my bike were anodized blue, the began to wear as soon as a dirty shoe was placed on them. Cad plating will give you a gold color but w...

a new sheet of mill steel may be shiney but it also has a texture from the rolling process, its this texture that gives the corossion a foot hold, of course blackend or blued armour resists rust thats what those finnishes are for, but you dont blue a surface with scratches in it you polish it then b...

i have to disagree, armour in period was polished, it was often finnished according to your station, authentic almost mirror like polish has been discovered beneath wrappers and other close fitting pieces. A good polish helps resist rust buy providing a smooth surface which is more difficult for rus...

my first buffer was a washing machine motor, i just wore it out this summer, washing machine motors tend to be free at the dump, a shaft can be bought from eastwood, this way you can be into a buffer for the 8.99 price tag of the shaft. I have a baldor motor ive used as a buffer but i dont like the ...

the melee spearman relys heavily on the people around him, with some notable exceptions im sure, but a lone spearman or two is usually easy pickings, give that spearman a fighter with a shield and the odds change alot, for me id need to see that spearman fighting alone in a tourney to properly judge...

ultimatly one mans katana is another mans bastard sword, since basicly its just a stick, there is not enough about it to realy seperate it from a bastard sword, so in an sca context its the personna that dictates the weapon, is that a madu, nope it my pilum. Not knighting a personna because they don...

i like a steel strap that spans the entire shield, i locate the strap so it runs against the grain of the wood adding strength.
i make my hole by drilling a small hole just big enough to take a jigsaw blade, then just cut the hole.

An interesting question was asked by Sir Richard "Would you knight someone who is a terrific melee spearman but who has very little success in tournaments because that is the only thing they fight well with and in the lists others typically do not fight spear against him/her?" This has me thinking a...

Hey Halberds, i dont think the addition of bronze trim turns it into a fantasy piece, examples of this type of helmet are rare, so we definatly dont know what they all looked like.

its true the weld will be stronger but you dont want large areas made up of rod/wire, a small gap between the items to be welded is great but dont fill large areas with weld, like matt said keep working the tops untill they are close. once the top is basicly there the edge can be trimmed to ensure a...

all responces are good, one thing though, experienced welder or not a 3/4 inch gap is not to be filled with weld, welding rod/wire etc is great for joining metal but is not a great metal in its self, a gap of an 1/8th of an inch is a big enough gap, going beyond that is unadvisable

Ive used it before as visor straps and mild steel helms to tend to get a rust stripe under them, so now on visor straps i dont use chrome tanned, but i figgured that since the binding is permanent a little rust under it should be fine, im guessing that even with veg tan moisture could be a prob, but...
