I greatly appreciate Valsgards post, they clearly address the heart of the issue and sum up my thoughts far better than I could have myself. Its refreshing to have Alfred posting again as well. We are for the most part an "Honor" based organization, and that is a very rare thing. It is unf...

I would say to folks that although Jeremy is often irreverent and is a consummate joker he does take his craft seriously and offers a great deal for people to learn from, and does it free of ego and arrogance. I find it refreshing, especially when compared to the "stuffiness" and egoism th...

Good advice, I ignored the pain, suffered permanent muscle loss, joint damage, 3 surgical procedures and will never be the same, and I have yet to address the rotator cuff injury.
Sorry about your situation, it does suck.

Re: Corinthian Helmet That I Bought
IMHO look to SCA armourers for SCA armour, they know the game, play the game and in most cases have years of experience tailoring historical designs to meet/exceed SCA standards.
You can often dent a "16" ga helmet just by dropping it on a hard surface.

Re: Documentation requested: Gamboised cuisse
Gamboised cuisses seem common enough between 1340-1360 from Italy, Germany and the Low Countries. Considering England's deep connection with the latter within that period it would seem odd if the English didn't use the gamboised cuisse at all. Roel Renmans had some amazing photos of some figures fr...

Yes, they were worn in the 14th cent.
The A Strassbourg Cathedral Altar Piece (circa 1345) clearly shows them.
They may not show up in effigies due to being a more "economic" defence but they were certainly used.

Period art is a primary source . Whether it is accurate or not is another question. From wiki - "a primary source (also called original source or evidence) is an artifact..." The effigy is a primary source for an EFFIGY. An effigy is a secondary source for the ARMOUR depicted. An extant a...

I use a hole saw for rondells, they come in a variety of sizes and I can make a perfect circle with one in less than a minute, A big 4 inch size make take 2 min. If a want to lay brass on top its a breeze as I can cut out a brass slug in the same amount of time and its a perfect fit. Use them at a s...

The need for speed and general competitiveness leads to near armourless stick fighting that is pretty much devoid of any medieval exper...

I, for one would love to see Pennsic run like a big ass melee event without it being a war. Where different Kingdoms, Baronies, Principalities , Households, whatevers could sponsor fights (like the Lost Boys fight at Pennsic) units could go out and pick fights, do pickup melees, whatever and just f...
