thanks for the compliments all, Drunker, its important to know that many people who post here are new to armouring, "crap" or "junk" can sound harsh to the fellow just starting out. Thanks for the kind words though, i appriciate it

I definatly agree with Thaddeus in regards to belt width, if you portray early dark ages a wider roman style reinforced belt could be an option although even that style belt ideally could be a little wider.

id suggest a plaster form, palster is absorbant by nature so it will accelerate the drying process. there are many ways to harden leather but ideally very hot water (not boiling, but close) and rapid drying is the key to making it its hardest.

to fight in maille i wear a quilted gambeson, to the gambeson i point my elbows and small shoulder cops. Over that i put my maille then over that i wear a 10/12 oz leather belt to cover the kidneys and floating ribs. I strongly suggest additional kidney protection for maille wearers. I made post a f...

i agree the maille could be a little longer, but ultimatly the helm is an instock item so making the maille the perfect length is hard since i dont know who will end up with it. I like the distance it hangs on the back and sides, id like to to lay on my chest in the front but its not likely to happe...

Well id agree its a sugarloaf i think saying it is this or it is that based on an osprey pic is kinda a waste of time, its a modern pic and not likely accurate, especially since there are no surviving sugarloafs, not to mention ones with visors. It very much is a transitional piece though the only i...

here is a pic of the funerary achievment from kornburg castle with its original camail i think this would be an excellent option, like AB Hammer stated a leather belt rivited inside the helm as a point to attatche the maille. i have found that for elbows 2 lames is fine, you can usually get the little bit extra that you need from motion in the vambrace and rebrace. traditional knee articulations, mostly 14th cent type are not enough for knee fighting, there tends to be enough motion to kneel but not enough to sit back on...
