being involved in the maille, and the maille plates was not going to something i had anything to do with, alsa shit happens, but omitting the plates was my descision, i dont/didnt feel that 12.5 ga aluminum butted maille would even begin to be strong enough a material for a maille and plates armour....

Ive got to disagree htat late period armour was not worn with a belly, if you could afford to comission the armour in period it would be made to fit you skinney or tall chubby or whatever, henrys tourney suit is an example of this, although its later than your period. a good example of diff sizes ca...

Matt, there are multiple examples of the more pointed hundskull varietys, 2 examples that come to mind are an onion top hundskull klapp from the met in NY circa 1370, and a lowpoint hundskull klapp from the tower of london circa 1380. Also i had stated that i had not seen the term hundsagugel in pri...

Dimitry, the reason for the angle on the occular is to not only clear the nose (its a very form fitting helm)and also to make the maille hang a slight distance infront of the grill not lay up against it. Ive done spangs with out the angle and have found that it requires a particular location for the...

Wombat, sometimes i do tap down the cone on the top, sometimes i dont, it depends on how high it is, this one is a little more raised than i like because of the center crease on the framework. it may get tapped down i may leave it, i still have a few more little tweeks to do to it befor im done. plaster is an excellent choice for making the mold that you want to form the leather over, do not seal the plaster, the plaster is very absorbent and will hasten the process of drying the leather. Plaster is also very easy to carve and shape Exaggerate the muscle contours and shape so that they will...

Here is my solution, what matt said was spot on, rings looped through a rigid portion of a helm will get smashed and bent becuase of the angle. A leather strap is a good solution. On mine i used artifical sinew, folded the strand twice to end ...

One of my books (i dont remember which one)claims the earliest written mention of maille is roman claiming its oragin was celtic, another states that the word celtic is derived from the Greek Celtoi (or something similar) which was defined as anyone living outside of the roman empire. If you take th...

nice work, a friend of mine bought your barbutta from e-bay, i thought it came out pretty cool, from examining the barbutta i would suggest a higher temp, or a slower wire feed when you did the welding, but i think its a cool helmet, and i know you made it a while ago. I agree with the others on the...
