Drachus,
A very good video on fluting is available here:
http://www.armourguild.org/videos.php
The techniques used is a hammer and creasing stake. It leads to VERY nice and sharp flutes.
I just got done burning DVDs to work through our backlog and we have them ready to ship.

Re: Brigandine Vs. Coat of Plates . . . .
Greetings all. I am reinventing my persona to the point of finally registering a device. GASP!!! I am thinking that a brig or a coat of plates is the way I want to go but can not decide which is more desireable. Flexibility, strength, protection, etc. Ease of construction is also a concern though n...

Jason, Thanks for the additional pics. I am firmly in belief that they were used for lining. I am just not convinced that the holes on that breast and back are authentic to the pieces. Handling the piece may provide the answer. Or identifying pictures of additional similar pieces that have a similar...

OK... I would like to see good close ups of the backplate around the areas of the holes. I would also like to see interior shots. For some reason, I am thinking Cad is correct. However, I cannot find another black and white with similar holes. This does not surprise me as I have limited pictures of ...

Do you have many photos of B&W backplates in your extensive collection. My collection of 50 or so pictures(B&W) is pretty poor to say i'm doing a repro of one. Honestly, I don't know. I do not study 16th century armour for the most part. Most of my photographic efforts are focussed on 14/15th centu...

I believe that those holes may be for riviting in a lining. But I could be wrong. -Cad I was thinking along those lines and was going to add that to my post. However, I cannot find reference to a lined black and white. I was trying to find a picture of a black and white with a lining or the remnant...

aaaah, i kind of know what you mean but i can't say i've ever seen it on any armour. PIctures? I do not have postable pictures. I do not like posting pictures that have been published. That is sort of a no-no... copyright laws and all. I will look through my pictures of the Harding collection and o...

Similar hole can be seen on the edges of armour throughout the latter half of the 16th and 17th century and were used to hold on rows of piccadillies (sp?). Rows of fancy edging most often in a scalloped or rounded dag design. I would surmise that these are for a similar purpose. However, later peri...

Re: operating in the red.
Being a former business man, I thought that it is a good thing to be operating 'in the red' (or close to it anyway). When you make money in your business, you will be paying business taxes. (no fun) Instead of making profit, spend that money on equipment, and other items that the business needs. An...

Bargrills... Really do I have to even argue this point.. Gone! If you cannot make your kit legal without a bargrill, then PLEASE go home. In my humble (or not so) opinion... There are two distinct niches or classes of fighter protection in the SCA (there is overlap, but for the most part two can easily be identified when seen): SCA Armour - looks, feels and acts historical. A relatively decent attempt at historical accuracy. Makes peo...

That would still deform the rivet though wouldn't it? I want to keep the nice domeshape. Thanks No, it doesn't. Brass, mild steel, stainless rivets... it works for all of them. If it does mash up the rivet head it is probably the result of rivet peening technique rather than the tools used. Remeber...

Richard, The piece to which you refer is depicted in colour on page 232 and on page 366 in b&w (with a detail of the tassets and construction) in the Armoury of the Castle of Churburg (Trapp and Scalinia) tome. Cause more quality control would raise the price more. Obviously Ice has found a price-point that allows him to compete, and compete effectively. If the amount of time and money required to repair QC issues is less that would be if he implemented a much stricter level of quality control, the busine...

While I don't agree with Stonekeep's indignation, I do agree with his point. Icefalcon's prices don't reflect craftsmanship and authenticity, so much as material, finish, service and stock. It costs money to keep stock, which is why nobody does it- you are tying up materials and labour into somethi...
