That covers a lot of territory - narrowing it down would be helpful. What period and culture are you trying to clothe?

Senior - I remember the old cannon very fondly - and got hit by the huge, sleeping bag-sized foam wad once - it knocked me right on my ass, and I went down giggling like a fool. :D

Good times.

Re: Selling SS 16g. Corinthian

I'm going to be VERY blunt, and ask a question: So you are also going to market this as 'possibly SCA legal' and hope that the person that buys this helmet doesn't complain when they find out otherwise? Marketing it for LARP use? Sure - I'm sure that it would be suitable for some LARP system ruleset...

Re: Cheapest and Simplest Persona to do Well (No Nekkid Celt

Since there is no start date to the SCA....Roman or greek maybe. Loin cloth, white tunica (with purple stripe or clavus as a roman dignitary), toga, and calceus (sandals) and you're done. Slight correction - calcae and caligae are MILITARY boots - the calcae are enclosed boots and caligae are openw...

Next important question - WHere are located? 16 guage MIGHT be legal where you are, but it's also at the bottom edge of legal. Many places 'hit harder' than others, and 16 guage won't last long. More importantly, mass and weight are part of what makes a helmet protective for SCA combat, and since th...

Re: Corinthian Helmet That I Bought

::wincing:: I have some bad news then, the company likely doesn't actually make those items themselves, and based on the images on their site, they are a retailer for the Deepeeka Group, based in India. The helmet is not made for the kind of use your are looking for - I would be very surprised if it...

It would be helpful to have a picture of the helmet, and to know where you got it from - there are a ton of helmets out there - especially Corinthians - that are NOT AT ALL suitable for use in SCA combat.

I stopped doing demos for the most part around here - because most of the time, SCA traditions were being taught as history.

Spinning Winds was, as I recall, based out of Ansteorra. I've seen several of her tents over the years, and I recall that she used havyweight awning canvas. Rivets? What did they expect? Machine-perfect replication? I think we sometimes lose sight of what "hand-made" means. Well done! I think that quite a few people DO expect that - I was showing some of my reenactment Roman gear to some friends, when a semi-local Laurel (who doesn't do any o...

I'm adding to the chorus of 'sell it/don't modify it'. Most SCA Roman helms don't look particularly Roman to begin with, and modifying this one will make it even less so. Since WCA helmets tend to get a pretty good sum on resale, you'll be happier with the end result of selling this and getting a he...
