Re: Hitting from behind on singles combat
I had one genius who moved here from some heathen kingdom try the spin thing on me in a tournament once. I had been watching him do this with some success at practice (mostly because people would stop while trying to figure out WTF he was doing...) and was waiting for it. When he spun on me, I crouc...

Jackie - I had the same procedure a few weeks ago, so you have condolences from someone who has the memory quite fresh... I'm glad that yours was also clear. Don't push too hard to get TOO active Too soon.

Hang in there, Jackie. Stress test results are often read with a SERIOUS error on the side of caution. Been there, done that, got my pubes shaved by a cute nurse to prove it. Was that TMI?

One nice thing about ordering from a stateside shop is, you'll never see a post saying, "Luckily, my lady is half Trimarian, so..." Mermaids are HOT!!!! "...it was her unblinking eyes, and the way her hair smelled like kelp, and the sexy, SEXAY way she fluttered her gills..."

When I was active, there was a fellow from a neighboring kingdom who would 'accidentally' break fiberglass pikes, and I believe he got sanctioned.

I used to work nights as a bouncer in a biker bar, and wore the same type of cup for that and SCA heavy. I had several pairs of lycra compression shorts made for me that included a pouch to keep the cup in place. Most comfortable I ever found.

It's going to be a suckfest.
I will give it all the attention it deserves - just like 'Deadliest Warrior'.
That is to say, I may see a picosecond of it while changing channels.

One thing that helped me a huge amount was the 'Orkney Living Room Fight' - which oddly enough would happen in the living room of the house Count Brand was living in -
Helmet, shield, arm armor and gorget - and working at half-speed only. We did a lot of fighting in the living room.

Re: Shishak -style helm with spade nasal?
One problem I see in this thread is people disagreeing over terminology - and using various ethnic terms interchangeably, without regard to the item's actual ethnic origin. Sir Rodrigo's helmet, being a prime example of an Ottoman helmet of the type the Turks refer to as a chichak - may be called so...

One thing I always stress: Explaining what we do does not always need to be a recruiting pitch - in MANY, MANY cases, that is exactly counter-productive. Sometimes, the quick answer is all that's needed, and anything further makes you come across as proselytizing - which causes most folks to raise t...

In Caid, the Barony of Calafia, we have the May War - which draws people from Caid, Atenveldt, the West, and Artemesia.
