Looks like one of the helmets from Nepal/Northern India. The's a similar reconstruction in the Osprey Mongols book, as I remember.

It also looks like riveted maille to me (looking at the swells in the rings)

My feeling is that by attaching the cut-down chausses to the gamboised cuisses, you'll still be dealing with a lot of downward drag on the cuisses

Just went through the copy of the book I recommended to you (Splendors of the Ottoman Sultans) - the only book I have with me at my current residence - and the three examples are 26.75", and the other two are 27 inches.

Hibernicus and I hiking a few years ago - at 6500' of altitude. Each of us is loaded out with full marching kit - about 100-110 pounds, including armour, clothing, rations, weapons, tools and incidental gear.
