Thanks Doc! The agreeded date of the fall of the Roman Empire is September 4, 476 when Romulus Augustulus, the last Emperor of the Western Roman Empire was deposed by Odoacer (and his merry band of Ostrogots). Flavius Belisarius and Narsus the Unic took most of it back in 540. 550 it was at its grea...

Thanks! That's my old kit. I'm currently wearing a bastardized 12 cent Byzantine kit. (Wish I had money for the right helm) Would it be awful to "point" the shoulder cops to the straps of the lamellar? It depends how you do it. If you point them to the shoulder straps, they tend to pull th...

I'm saying that we have adopted wearing it as a panacea for protection. Which is fine, it works great and is very functional. Everyone can assemble it and it fits all body types. But we're also trying to justify its use universally. That's the problem. It wasn't universal. Lamellar (plates laced tog...

If fact, I've been scratching my head why you and I are going round-and-round on this as I KNOW we agree whole-heatedly on research.

So, you are saying that you can justify a Scot on Crusade in a kettle and lamellar, as not uncommon? That is the information Matthew was given, and that he presented as a solid and viable option. If so, then a lot of the current SCA armour is going to have validity. That has been the sole purpose of...

Is SCA armored combat for everyone?

No-no-no-no-no.
No.

But...
If there is interest, nurture it. Just ensure that they are properly armoured, and really understand what they're getting into - that way they are not traumatized the 1st time they get 'blown-up'.

Since it's in the middle, you could get 12" of pvc or even copper pipe with an inside diameter just slightly larger than the pole, and make a sleeve.

Personally, I'd cut it in 1/2 and make 2 short spears for matched weapons.
