The metal face plate was the chin cup of the buffe, re-worked to cover the mouth. It is riveted to the cheeks and mesh. The mesh is riveted to the helm, cheeks, and to the face plate. The helm does not open, it slides over the head. When I meshed up my pigface bascinet for jousting, I also took liqu...

It successfully weathered Pennsic!

It did lean slightly to the side, so my next one will be a foot shorter.
I ended up gifting it as I packed to go home.

Glad everyone who tried it found good results.

I'm calling it the 7-20.
$7
20 min of work.

:)

Thanks for the nod Adamo!

My Pennsic was well worth the $. Why? It had comedy, drama, plot twists, glory, and nail-biting action. It was great making new friends, meeting people I only knew from the Internet, and seeing my friends from last year. My days started at 7:30 with the trumpet of the Duke and ended in the late hour...

armour stand - quick, easy, simple.

(...for Pennsic!) I love having an armour stand at Pennsic. The armour takes up less space and it airs out. I have very limited space in my vehicle, and I had this idea driving home the other day: http://mattyds.com/mattyd_pics/stand1-2.jpg The core of the stand is what makes it, well, stand. I took...

Rapier helm - finished

I purchased an inexpensive dress Burgonet from Karl Von Sussan, and the good Baron A gave me an old fencing mask. I've spent the past 3 months working on this as I had time and I now know why rapier hels are so expensive. What a giant pain in the ass the project has been, but it will be worth it on ...

Last year at GNE Count (then King) Gryffith mentioned to my Knight how much it would please him if some courageous Eastern Knights fought in the rapier battle at Pennsic. So, my Knight authorized, and mentioned to me how much pain he would bring to my life if I didn't authorize and fight in the rapi...

http://mattyds.com/mattyd_pics/shlager-scab1.jpg http://mattyds.com/mattyd_pics/shlager-scab2.jpg What started out as a way to transport my shlaggers safely, turned into scabbards. They are metal pipes covered with leather, dyed black. Its also a much prettier way to hang them on the wall when not ...

Baron Conal,

Al the Kings have a tourney at Pennsic.
Stop at the finals, those 2 remaining are the 2 sides.
They have one day to get allies, and agree on a battle schedule.

each person shakes the hand of someone from the opposite side, wishes them good luck, etc. Kind of like saluting your opponent before a bout in a tournament. The side with more troops will have people who don't have anyone's hand to shake, so we count those numbers, divide in half, and the king who...

Anybody know if SCA and ARMA have ever squared off? Ie, kind of "champions" fight? I went to their site and looked at some of their videos. Seems most of their stuff is not even armour related, but there are some armoured up vids. So, I wonder what would actually happen if SCA and ARMA fi...

Cajoin the colored helmet stickers and inspection stickers into one. When you get inspected, you declare for a side. The marshals can account for how many in each color are given out. End of the day they can tally and see the #s on each side. If you have to switch sides, trade the inspection sticker...

Hear-hear!

Though I enjoy being on the smaller side (the glory is greater), when your enemies are embarrassed to be on the field by their sheer unbalance of numbers, and apologize for such, then things needs to be reexamined -- for honor's sake!
