Id say it a handicap.
I would have no problem with someone bringing a door into a single fight.
Its slower and heavier and allows me to "teleport" (bout the only time I can!).

I've bought 550 and 440. Both fit throught the pre cut holes in White Mountain Armoury and GAA lamellar. I always thought the difference was 550 had 5 of the white nylon cords inside the colored sheath and 440 had 4. Also thought 550 = 550lbs of strength and 440 = 440lbs. Not sure where I go that fr...

I'm with Animal's post above (hence my edit in my own post). Its one thing to expose yourself to attack in an atempt to grab a weapon** Its quite another to put yourself in a position where you can't see your opponent and try to take their weapon. THAT is against the spirit of our combat. You cannot...

If I saw that going on on my side I'd tell you to stop. If I say that happening on the otherside of the bale, I'd grab "boomstick" (aka the Great-Ball-Bat) and wrap away the problem. You're basicaly engaging without seeing your opponent IMHO. Thats not the spirit of what we're doing. [edited to add]...

Irishman ina Brig -- WAS: Irish (English?) 10th / 11th Cent
Looking for ilumination, pics of statuarry, etc of 10th and 11th Century Irishmen in armour.
A friend new to the SCA has expressed interest in a persona of that date. Not knowing jack about that period, I recommended he look to 10th / 11th Cent English. Is that correct?
Thanks.

If you're short of cash, get some plastic barrels from the local carwash and use them as plates in a Brig. Then you just have the expence of the canvas (or leather) and some roofing nails / burs. You can make vambraces, cuisses, gorget and greaves with them. As long as you hide the plastic it will b...

Nice thing about the axe is you can hook shields and weapons. This can make the other guys unhappy if your side is paying attention to the openings you're creating. I have a mace I use in castle battles that I can hook shield eges with and then push the thrust when they pull their shield back. Try i...

I guess thats artistic interpertation of maile. though the absence of sturrups, and the way he's holding the lance suggest much much earlier. The blazon looks later. Your much more gracious about his work than I could be Destichado. His work is made even less credible by his inane ramblings about rolled edges and his cold working alchemy. The shape of his work is brutish and unrefined. His understanding of fit and finish is that of a knuckle dragging yard ape. ...
