Do you mean a "boss"?
Its the metal 'bowl' that protects the hand.

I call the center grip a "handle".

VERY nice!

Questions:

1) How well do they draw? (Useable on the battlefield? Do thrusting tips get in the way?)

2) Are you using a tubing, or does the leather hold the shape from the rattan? What oz leather?

3) Can we see a pic of it worn?

THnaks Bob - great looking piece!!!

I might get one as a loaner.

The dalmatica pattern I have is rectangles (one for the front, one for the back, one for each sleeve - stitch em all together), so the simple logic says they're made from a rectangle. But I'm thinking it looks more like it would be a rectangle with a big semi cidcle cut out of the top to facilitate ...

MariaAgrissa Thank you for that link. I've seen that style of cloak in real life, but I don't believe its the same one depicted in the links in my 1st post. It has no corners, and thus would be a real bear to try to tie - let alone all the excess fabric it would creat on the shoulder and at the hip.

I chose a very unique device that shoud (theoretically) be useable throughout the span of the SCA. That way, if my person changes centuries, its still appropriate. I submitted it last year.

I prob wont pass.

I'll let you know 3 years from now when they get to it.

My lamellar had 3 cuts in the paracord lacing.

I've got one in the macrame.

The para is A LOT easier to lace.

The mac is a lot earier to repair.

It could go either way.
I think the macrame looks better.

I put 2 layers of duct tape, liguid nails nylon strapping over that, more tape and then the rawhide.

Question:
Should I drill the holes and tac the rawhide wet, or wait for it to dry then drill / tac?
