Re: fighting spear

I'm new this whole thing so if i sound ignorant, it's because i am. I was just wondering if you were to fight a spear, happened to get one on one or some such, and they attack, can you grab their spear pole and stab with your weapon? ***D: Can you? Sure. Will you? No. You can grasp a weapon as long...

First, I cover the AL shield edges with duct tape (protects the canvas). I use an Elmers-esque wood glue product (it said "33% free" and I said "come to daddy!"), got at WalMart. I cut it down ~/< 1/2 with water. Took a paint brush and liberally coated the surface with the glue. Note: it drips. Then...

Damn contact cement

I'm putting together 3 new AL shields for this weekends tournament. - centergrip catseye oval - 24" centergrip round - 12" flat buckler I'm covering the AL with canvas. For my last AL shield I used wood glue cut with water to attach the canvas. Worked great! I decided to use contact cement instead t...

The above post is typical of what I've heard about HW orders being years behind the promised date of delivery. I have heard several people frustrated to the point of legal action. Asbjorn Johansen, Modern combat game, that is what we are doing (If you disagree, I'd happily spar about it on another thread? ). You have made me realize why I don't like DDFB. It is because it takes away my ability to choose to submit or to fight. I'll restate my previous thoughts again... if you ...

Actually, I like the idea of letting your opponent decide whether to yield or to fight. I think it would be entirely appropriate, and completely within the rules, to have a scenario where you let your opponent know that you are behind them by laying your weapon (any weapon) on their shoulder and de...

The problem I had with the 180 rule was full force engagements from 190 degrees. I also understand the "hitting an unprepared target" arguement. So, the majority of the opinion thus far has been that there is a undesireable tradeoff of safety to allow for a blow to be thrown from behind. As my desir...

Could you write a short "how to" essay and include materials (type of paint, etc)? I'd love to do that kind of project but am too timid. I'm afraid I'd wreck something expensive. Don't even know where to start.

Exactly how am I supposed to do that with a spear? Or a polearm, for that matter? How do you do it now with the Society engagement rules? Other than binding, you can't. How do you DDFB with a spear? You can't. What I'm proposing would not change that, you could still bind. BUT, you could also butsp...

Please note: my tone may sound empassioned, BUT I am VERY grateful for your involvement in this discourse. My tone should be assumed positive.

My intent is to explore a possible bridge between DDFB and something more akin to landed blows.

Actually he's doing you a favor. First, it does not honor me to DDFB me. You insult me with it. I would perfer to be unchivalourously gacked from behind than to be told I'd dead. Thats just me. I will not DDFB you, instead I will (per Society rules) bind/distract you until you are slain by my team ...

If you're gonna have 'battles' where people flank, death from behind is a good thing. DECLARED death from behind? or what I described in the initial post? I approached this problem from my vantage: the view of someone who dispises "declared death" from any angle and addressed the reasons why in order to make DFB palatable to me. The only real sticking point for me is the "placing" a weapon on me. I want to be hit! But like others, not outside of engag...

was: blows from behind? was: Engagement- hyjacked, now: DDFB

I had an idea that I'd like to offer for dissection amongst the rattan crowd. There have been several discussions regarding some areas adopting Declared Death From Behind. The protractors argue that it adds 'realism' and is safer and more sportsman like; the detractors counter that DDFB is counter t...

Off Topic... I had a wild thought just now. I've seen people use spears with toilet blungers on the end. You stick a spear, AND IT STICKS!! This wouldn't work with javalins (me thinks), but for some future res battle, I like to try carying some plunger spears for the sole purpose of sticking shields...

Don't go for speed or power, just work the slow technique.
If you have 2 bokken, that will be very helpful because your right hand can "show" the left how the mechanics of shots work.

Good luck!
