I don't know...
I'm thinking track & field javalin throws (not thrust and throw) and impacts.

...and the T&F javalins aren't ment for war.

Maybe we could get Steve from forth to imput?

Gauntlets / baskets:

Treat like groin and neck. DO NOT actively target the hand (or target but throw light e.g. face thrust), but if they get inadvertantly struck during the fighting they are treated as disabilitating to that arm.

Does "anti-personel" mean that a shield shot kills? If the answer is "no", then I will champion them! Yes, in SCA rules, if it throws a 10lb rock, it kills through shield, bottom line. Consider how much force/energy is required to throw a 10lb rock 50yds and imagine that hitting your shield.... Orm...

Not sure if they're explicity referenced anywhere. East is Society minimums. I can say that I take thrusts to the grill and side of the face/neck. I don't take them to the head (ears up) as per society 'we're wearing Norman helm'.

I've never been thrusted to the back of the head (knock wood).

I don't know about mail being proof against a javalin. I think about the mass and velocity of the javalin point being focused on a single ring and see failure of the ring. I think Javalins should penetrate maile. - it will encourage them as you are vulnerable if you try to use one and then swithc we...

How about have the stunned cralw "away" (to their teams start point). They get there unmolested, theyunstunned. Friends can also unstun them, enemies can capture or slay them at any time during the crawl.

Had another brainstorm on the ride to work... Dead - lie down on the ground, stay there till the end. Stunned - SIT down on the ground until: 1) an allied member taps you shoulder with their hand and commands you to rise (un-stunned). 2) an enemy taps you shoulder with their hand and commands you to...

That could be devistating to the axe and cutting spear guys, BUT since the axe and cutting spears do more damage (kill vs stunn) it would be a ballancing factor. I think I like it. Here is a question: Mail worked well against sword slashes (or they would not have worn it for a melinia right?), but I...

Lifting your leg and getting hit in the head is allowable in SCA combat.
NOT ADVISABLE, but allowable.

And I enjoy having siege engines on the field as well, which is why I hope we don't end up doing something that will hurt us. I pray that the wisdom of the marshals will prevail and the stick trebs will be championed as slings. Otherwise, I'm putting my balista on a stick - - and the stick on a whee...

Having just reviewed the Marshal's Handbook and the ruling by the SEM on grappling I don't see anything (at the Society level) that prohibits kicking your opponent's shield. As there is only evidence of lorica ever having existed as metal and not as leather, I'd say engraving would be acceptable.

Kudoes Maelgwyn for lighting this fire. Thanks to "the 30" for the inspiration.
I'm uber excited about the potential of this.

I'd like it to be differnt thatn "the 30" though. Keep it honorable, but a differnt kind of "Chivalry".

Who was using symetrical coffin shields or a dacian falx in the 6th century? I presume you didn't really mean flax! If flax is your weapon you need to wash your linen tunic more often! You may have me on the coffin, I think I'm way off on that one. Flax: ok, I'm thinking of a wapon... short handle....

You could take a thrust and throw javelin and a center grip shield and hold them in the same hand (I intend to try this at some time.) This would give you a simular effect and may be more historic.
