I dissagree. It is enjoyed by thoes that do not have a understanding of how engagement works. If you understood engagement and policed your own, then I can not see how you would be able to embrace DFB - this is my opinion.

New Question...

WHAT HAPPENS WITH DFG (DoG?) if the fighter is attempting to rise?
I'm assuming the rising fighter can attempt to block the "tag"?

Parlan,

GREAT story of valor and tatics.
I have no idea what it has to do with the percieved need for DFB.

Yelling or binding / fowling is best way to gain attention (I've found).

Teach engagement instead.
Also, continue to emulate such great heroic acts.

I feel the same way you do, and I was appaled when the fighter (lying unobstructed at my feet with plenty of room) rose when the hold was called and did not leave the field. Appaled.

When questioned he claimed 'he wrose when he was able' with a smirk.

Appaled.

Skutai,

DFG addresses the fighter gaining unfair advantage by not rising as soon as they are able, and instead "playing dead" and waiting till a time of their choosing.

A tap from behind can be misread by a fighter as incidental contact by a member of his side. Yelling or binding / fowling is best way to gain attention (I've found). FrauHirsch, From what you describe (as the reasons for enacting DFB), it sounds like there is an enforcement of the rules issue with t...

Totally against it as a rule.
If it is a rule, then it is propper, honorable and just to use.

It also kills the spirit of the game by bringing a passive death to an active fighter.

DFG example: SOME fighters with questionable morals will fall on the ground (say, during a bridge battle) and remain there until a hold is called. They then rise - oft to the surprize of the other side who thought they were "dead". DFG is one way of dealing with these fighters who are gaining unfair...

Dead from Ground

Correct me if I am wrong..... but in Death on the Ground a member of the enemy unit has to touch you and say "Dead"....right? Not having fought with DFG, I had the same Q as Sarnac. Also, for me the idea of trying to fight my way to my feet against an oponent(s) in position of advantage seem like a...

One shot in passing pretty much guarentees the back. I guess a scorpion wrap could catch someone in the front, but I think that shot is too slow. In passing is the same as breaking engagement by turning away - you're engaged per weapons range. In passing focuses on keeping someone from chasing you a...

Two facing lines are engaged when they come into weapon's range. When you are in a line, you are engaged with EVERYONE in that line (cross-firing). Once you are engaged, you continue to be engaged until you leave the longest weapon's range. There's only 2 times you can ever hit / be hit from behind:...

The point behind declared death is for those turkeys who, even though flanked, refuse to turn around and acknowledge your existance. In that case, I would far rather see it used than the inevitable pickaxe from behind with a polearm. Maeryk Pushing, fouling weapons, and the like are perfectly legit...

"Death from behind" is TERRIBLE for the SCA. Fighters that use it on a consistent basis and then find themselves in a fight that uses normal engagement very often have problems (and percieve non engagement) because they do not understand the rules. And how could they? It is an alien concept to them....

Yeah, I can see it being an on-side snap and he is rebounding and about to throw the off-side return.

When I first looked, it seemed like a back-blade (as if he was throwing on-side, off-side, 1-2-1-2 combo) and threw in a back blade on one of the 1's to get over the angle of the shield.

In my greaves, and bozubands I use shearling http://www.tandyleather.com/searchprods.asp but I also glue a little mouse pad between the metal and the shearming. I thought it would be really warm, but it is suprisingly not.

In the helm I use black open cell foam over blue closed cell. That way you can't see the blue.

There are several women warriors of note in early personas. Personally, I say go for what you may and let the critics be dammed. Perhaps, you c...
