Your Grace,

No idea, but I'm leaning toward modern depiction based on the style.
BTW, the Russian translates "Armour 13-14 Cent".

It's typical "Russian Icon" armour. So, to answer your question: yes and no, but mostly yes depending on WHAT period you're looking for. The shield, helm, and use of lamellar are all documentable. The Ptruges ("feathers") on the upper arms and lower torso point to a heavy byzanti...

I've made a few in the past, but I only have the old surplus wool army blankets to work with. Master Magnus noted that they are more likelly made from "fetal wool". http://mattyds.com/graphics/roman-soft-kit.jpg [img]http://warriorsofhistory.com/research/Byzantine/Constantine%201%20318-319...

I see what we do as an a-historical game of armoured sparing. If the rules called for taking legs as kills, I'd do that (and would win a lot more fights as the #2 shot I land is a leg). They call for loosing the limb struck, so that's how I play. The problem with changing anything is the "law o...

What is wonderful about this is that it is not just "one day", but likely 1/2 the event, possibly more!!!! Our society is founded upon fierce combat under scrutiny of honor and courtesy. Without that we have nothing and, the sport needs referees. The decades of Red-V-Blue at Pennsic have n...

I would not consider the Kingdoms of Æthelmearc, An Tir, Ansteorra, Artemisia, Atenveldt, Atlantia, Caid, Calontir, Drachenwald, Ealdormere, Gleann Abhann, Lochac, Meridies, Northshield, Outlands, Trimaris, West, Acre, Markland, ...

It was when Pennsic was all East Vs Mid.
This year (and hopefully from now on) it will be a 2 parter.

I. East V Mid
II East+Mid V Known World.

...or didn't you get the memo?

What should the 2 wars at Pennsic be called?

So, with the announcement by the Great Princes of the East and Mid that Pennsic is going to be a two parter (East vs. Mid and then East + Mid) I was thinking is would be cool to name each part. That way, when we're telling our "no-sh!t stories in September, we'll know exactly what part we're ta...

I wouldn't recommend metal lamellar myself for sca fighting, it is too stiff likely to chew you and whatever 'gambeson' you are using (thick fabric padding to protect you from your armor. I would bet that for the 1st part -- the "Pennsic War", it will be like very other Pennsic: East & Allies in blue, Mid & Allies in red. For the 2nd part -- the "_________ War", I'd guess the East and Mid in blue/red, and everyone else in another color, like yellow. Too ma...

We need to steward those new to our game and encourage them toward the possibility of their potential. If any of my posts did not convey this sentiment,...

Sebastian, what period did the shotel come into use?

Don't know, but the depictions I've see of it was with guys who also had rifles.

It's not an unheard of shape though, from the ancient falcata to the the modern kukri. If you find something depicted in period, let us know for sure.
