New casting materials are on their way, ordered tonight shipping 3-day UPS. Expect the casts by Friday next week. I'll send up payment for the right half gauntlet and the deposit we discussed for the 14th century hourglass finger gauntlets, with the castings.

I was curious about whether an arming coat could be made with a built-in pourpoint, permitting upper limb and lower limb armour to be pointed to a single garment. I will have to consider this in more detail at some point in the future, Jeff. Castings for greaves enroute, by the way. Should arrive Th...

Something that I have always understood, whether others think this way or not, is that everyone in the SCA is assumed to be some sort of nobility, and because of that, it's completely appropo to think of everyone as being part of an extended family, all cousins of some sort or another, or at the ver...

What the others said, but don't forget just plain old toughness. It's a fact that there is a mental part to it--you have to bear it. Energy conservation and heat management is critical; you have to always look for breeze, for shade, and keep your core temperature under control. It's something that b...

It looked like he was swimming in it, and it looked a bit later period--something about the tassets. Now, King Harry himself would not have been in brigandine, though many men at arms and archers would have been, I think that the decision to armor Branagh in that fashion had to do with recognizabili...

Mr. Woodenbullfrog, There is almost no way that such a question will not eventually turn into some sort of controversy, because what you ask draws into the discussion the sometimes at-odds lay members of the Church of Fight and the Church of Authenticity, and sometimes lay brothers from the Church o...

Cross-Post: Midrealm Coronation (Long)
I posted this in Legio Draconis, but thought it might be appreciated here. ---------------------- My Lord Sir Vitus, what follows is an account of Coronation Day, as I saw it with my tweye eyen: My lady and myself arrived after the tenth hour of the day--the lateness of our departure from these our ...

Good and gentle squire of the Viscount Galen, Knight, I was right glad to meet you. I am sorry that we were late to the finding of seats at the feast, and because of it we sat elsewhere other than where you took sup. Your Shire of Ravenslake is some way from my home in the Barony of the Flame, and i...

All of this is very worthy. Many the year I have myself not had armor like this, until this year. I like the shape of the couters--they should serve you well. I myself suffered grete injury at the blows of men at arms on my elbow, for having a too shallow elbow cop. Obtain for yourself some greaves,...

This is going to sound stupid, but it has worked for me, mostly because I have a full arm harness. Before I put my arm on, I lay a strip of 1" thick white foam, the kind you can buy at most cloth stores, in there, then I lay my arm into the vambrace, and strap it on. Definitely qualifies for the "qu...

You can make a sword from nearly any thickness of rattan, but you have to take off varying amounts to make it the right weight. There are all manner of methods--a bandsaw hasn't been mentioned yet, but it could be used. I have seen a thickness planer (power tool) used also--but Sir Dagonet is very r...

It's growing on me, Jeff. : ) As I am spending more and more time with my good friends de Charnye, Raymond Llull, Jean Froissart, King Rene, Enguerrand de Monstrelet, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the like, it's sort of taking over. Another reason is because I look around and what I see in my daily li...
