After you dip the fabric in the boiled onion peel solution and get the color you want you dunk the fabric in a bath of vinegar to fix the color. Enough vinegar to cover the fabric. Then hang it up to drip dry. Apparently, that's all there is to it. Or so my lady the fiber goddess says.

Yup onion skins, red , yellow etc = yellow dye when heated and mordanted with vinegar.
